Is it worth the upgrade or should I sit on the 6750 till Intel or AMD come out with a really decent successor.

I game, use lots of Photoshop and 3DS Max.

is it causing u noticeable problems with the photoshop/3DS Max ?

if your sig is up to date i'd get 4gb of ram, thought about overclocking your current processor ?

No not really, if I'm being honest I really just want to spend some money :D

I have 4GB of ram in and am pretty much ready to install 64bit Windows 7 at which point I will throw another couple of gig of ram in. I guess the real question is would it make an appreciable difference.

The impression I get from the Core i7 processors is that they are just not worth the money at this stage and don't produce an appreciable increase over the Quads and high end Core 2 Duos. So really I was thinking along the lines of covering myself until the next major processor revision similar to the Pentium D to Core 2 Duo leap.

If the software supports multi-core, then i'd get a Q9550 and overclock it.

I've just upgraded from a Q6600, but i also use software that is multi-core supported, so its worth it for me. It's also pretty much the best (or one of) the 775 socket, so you'll have the best CPU you can get before having to do a system overhaul.

I'm attempting to get 4.0ghz out of mine :D

i went from an e6700 to a q9550, my games performance isnt noticeably greater @ stock (crysis is much better tho), but i have more freedom to do more at once.

I went from Q6600 to Q9550 this week. Im really very pleased with it so far.
I too do a lot of photoshop + CAD modeling.

I recently went from a 3.8ghz q6600 to a q9550, currently at 3.6ghz, runs a lot cooler and should oc a lot hgher. No difference in gaming, video encoding seems a bit nippier, i mainly bought the q9550 to try one out.
