It's quite possible that you will need to update it for the 1333mhz chips.

But it's simple. Download the latest BIOS and the ASUS Update utility from here.

It'll allow you to update from within Windows. And it's safe providing you don't pull the plug half-way through.

thanks so much for your help. also if i didnt update bios the worse that would happen is that it would clock down to 1066? or am i making this up?

There's a chance that it won't recognise the CPU and will refuse to boot. Tho that's unlikely.

ok so i'm downing the bio utility

ASUS Update V7.09.02 Install Program for Windows 2000/XP/2003 and Windows 64bit XP/2003.

and the bios at the top of the bios page and that all i need to do? apart from run the asus bios utility?

You probably should have got v7.10.05, but I doubt it'll make a difference.

Install it and point it towards the BIOS file. That should be it.

thanks so much guys, all done now.

when it booted for the first time it said bad checksum overclocking failed. my system is all at stock so i dont know what that means but its fine now. message doesnt come up.

again thanks for your time.

Because you have a new bios everything is at default so i would advise going in there and setting everything up, voltages, ram timings etc

ok its all installed, when i look in the bios after running some games at full it shows 32.5 degrees

how does that sound? i used arctic silver 5 in a little line and a arctic freezer 7 pro.

should i be looking at lower?

ahhh superb, i spent 10 Min's making sure the HS was on properly which was good because one of the clips wasn't properly in (knew it looked dodgy).

that's great thanks for your time.

only mistake i made was doing a practice run on the wife's book shelve with the thermal paste. i though it would just rub off but the wood sucked it up and adding acetone on top made it worse. I've put a strategic photo frame over so i wont get beaten. :D

also is there really a "burn in" stage with thermal paste. they say between 50-200 hours it will settle in and produce better temps. any truth to this?
