Hey all,

My current Q6600 is an extremely poor overclocker, but a friend of mine, who doesnt overclock, has offered to buy it off me. What i am now wondering, as i feel more pulled towards a Wolfdale, is which one, i'm looking for one to hit, ideally - 4GHz+ if possible. I understand that the E8500 can do it easily, but are the E7200 and E8400 just as easy to clock that far?

Also, i am looking for my pc to run silent, so any recommendations on a cooler, I was looking at the AC Pro7 for it, but not sure how it would do with a Wolfdale!

TIA!

Hi

See my signature...I hope it helps.

Nice one!

That looks extremely tempting.

What sorts of temps and voltage is that running with?

E8400 the E8500 is £80 extra for 166Mhz more :|

Yeah, the reason i wondered though, was as the E8500 has the 9.5 multi!

i would rule the e8500 out as the extra .5 multiplier isnt worth the extra cost if you have a good MB.

personally i would pick the e8400 if you can afford to, for cooling try the thermalright ultra extreme 120 and a quiet 120mm fan and fan controller.

Right, I was looking at the TRUE120 a bit since, appears to be a good cooler, would it fit in a Cooler Master 330 case though?

I just edited my original post giving the temperatures, so please re-read.

Edited.
The voltage is 1.33v.
Idle
Core 0 = 41 C
Core 1 = 42 C

Load with prime both cores = 68 C after 6 hours
Load with games both cores = 58 C (all day flying IL2 Forgotten Battles using 1920 x 1200) with the following settings using nHancer

AA= SLI 64xS (16xS SSAA + 2x SLI SS (OpenGL))
AF= 16S

These settings give me an average of 100fps.

I hope this helps.

thanks a lot for that mate :D

E8400 + Thermalrite Ultra 120 Extreme + Noctua NF-P12 = Silent 4Ghz system

Just looked at that fan, looks mint! I think i'll probably get that combination :D Woop Woop.

Thanks everyone!!
