hi guys

I'd like a heatsink recommended for what will be one of the 2 cpu's mentioned. I picked this MSI P35 Diamond mobo up for a bargain so I'm far from complaining but the heatpipes seem to be making my choice a bit more difficult; approximate dimensions are below

I was going with an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro but it appears it won't fit now.

thanks

Got a Silent Knight II on my 8400. By its design the bulk of it is kept well away from the CPU's surrounding area, although this does mean that case size has to be taken into consideration.

It keeps my 8400 at circa 38 degrees idle. Nice piece of kit - I like it a lot.

If you'll notice a lot of the bigger HSFs have a relatively small block on the CPU, then a few heatpipes radiating outwards and upwards from it, and the big, wide radiator fins don't start branching off from the heatpipes until a few cm above the CPU block. By way of illustation look at the TRUE120 (shamelessly hotlinked from the OCUK shop's webspace - I know hotlinking is bad but hopefully the mods won't mind since I'm only hotlinking from OCUK itself!:p):

Most of the other good ones (Tunq, Noctua, Scythe Ninja) seem to use the same design, perhaps deliberately so as to clear stuff like chipset heatsinks or capacitors surrounding the CPU sckets. Now, I'm not at home right now, but tonight when I get back I could pop the case open and measure roughly how high up the fins start on my TRUE120 for you, and maybe others with different HSFs can do the same for theirs so you can choose?

Tuniq Tower will be fine since it's radiator is way high above mobo, hence shouldnt disturb the mobo heatsinks.

Just make sure you got big enough case to fit it ;).
