e7200 vs x2 4400+

hi guys does anyone know how an e7200 overclocked would compare against a x2 4400+ standard -- what would the benefits be apart from newer cpu ?

An overclocked e7200 would smoke the dual core!

If thats a socket 939 x2 4400+ your a rich man, flog it and spend a little extra to bag an E8400 (e0) instead of an e7200!

The benefits would be a faster, more energy efficient computer and your forum street cred would be restored!

E7200 wins by a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE amount, very ocable chip too.

I have the E7200 chip came from a 3800 X2 running at 2.5 Ghz, I now have the E7200 OC to 3.8Ghz. very cheap and fast chip Does all my encoding and gaming just fine.

Hi Big red, that would be very much dependent on your budget. How much are you looking to spend on a motherboard and will there be anything else you will need like memory for example?

i would need new memory to go with the board and cpu , I'm running a x2 4400 at the moment and would like an upgrade i don't think my budget would stretch to a i 7 and ddr3 memory so I'm open to advice

Hey Big red, from the fact you are still using an X2 4400 I am guessing your a pseudo power user/gamer who upgrades only about every three years? would that be right?

Also how much of a chore would it be too you to strip out your older/classic components and replace them with some newer kit (including re-installing your O/S and software, devices etc) . . .and then perhaps cleaning up your old kit and flogging it on?

I second that.

I done the above over a year ago. I went from a A64 single core 3500 to a 4200 X2 939 (one of the last from OCUK) and I'm still running it. I looked on the auction site and my cpu will sell for at least £50 lol, but I could buy a better CPU new (albeit a different "socket" etc) for that price!

I may sell up and upgrade, but I haven't decided if I will wait for an I7 or just go core 2 duo.

If you are buying now Pttojones, its pretty clear what to go for.

Intel Core 2. Mobo decided on budget. P31, P43 or P45. You just cant assume DDR3 is going to come down in price any time soon to make thinking of holding off longer worth it.

As I'm not buying until at least the end of Jan, I'm content to see what these latest AMD processor releases bring. I'm not waiting for them to bring out triple core variants, though.
