Not sure whether this is best here or in the Hard Drive section, but...
I have a brand spanking E7AUM, which has 5 SATA connections, all well and good. I would like to have all of them available as one purpose of the build is to hold a lot of media.
Two of the SATA ports on the MB are only active if RAID or AHCI are enabled, and I know people are having issues with AHCI, so my question is - if I turn on RAID mode to activate those SATA ports, do actually have to use a RAID configuration or can I just plug additional HDs in and use them as standalones?
Edit - think i've got it, I can use JBOD? This will enable the extra SATA ports, but essentially run with each disk independant.
