I just installed this processor and I've got a couple of questions after checking out CPU-Z.

1) The clock speed fluctuates often between 2000Mhz and 2666Mhz and the multiplier between 6 and 8. Is this due to speedstep?

2) If so, is it best to leave this on or turn it off?

3) If not, why is it doing that:o.

1. Yes that's right, it's Speedstep.

2. When overclocking it is said it's better to turn it off ye :)

3. See 1 :D

Ok I thought as much.

Where would you disable/enable it from? Cool n quiet on my old X2 was in the BIOS which I presumed would be the same for the E8200 but when I had a quick look I couldn't find anything. Is it labelled something else?

I turned speedstep off, and in Vista, with WMP, Firefox and sidebar running the temp is about 39C. Is that normal for this processor and what would be an average load temp?

I used coretemp and it has my temps at 53C whereas the BIOS has it in the 30's, as does Speedfan. Anything wrong here?

bios and speedfan are wrong, dont know why and it doesnt matter same for most people showing it as 15 degrees lower.

use coretemp and stress it with prime to find load temps, opening windows media player and 10 other apps doesnt stress it hardly anything

i got the download link for you HERE make sure to run the "torture test" small FFT's 1 hour should be enough

Isn't it rather high then at 53?

i updated the post to include link.. under 60 - 65 is fine under prime!. run it and post back.. im off to sleep now because its 3:30am! will check on your progress tomorrow, (post screenshots if you can :D, mainly because people only look at pic's sumtimes)

Ok, so after running Orthos, Core Temp shows them at 63C whereas Speedfan shows the cpu at 41C (which tends to agree with the BIOS). Now which one is correct and why is there such a discreprency?
