Basically i'm buying this processer tomorrow, the problem I have is this. My motherboard can run the C0 stepping chips out of the box, but it need's a BIOS update to run the E0 stepping chips. Say if I got the processer and it was an E0 stepping one, what do I do then? because my motherboard need's a BIOS update to run it and I can't do that unless i have a working chip in the socket... which it won't recognise. Please help.

Are you buying all of this new? I.e. the motherboard isn't currently being used in a PC? If it is then you could just flash the BIOS before putting the new chip in.

Yes these are all brand new components not used for a PC i'm building. How do I flash the BIOS without a processer in it?. I have the motherboard already but buying the processer tomorrow.

And you don't have another PC with a 775 chip you could borrow? Say a friend's PC?

I'm not 100% sure about this but will the motherboard boot or should I say POST with the chip in and as long as you get into the BIOS setup you could be OK? So stop the PC trying to boot up properly into Windows or if installing a new OS stopping it reading the CD/DVD you have your OS disk in?

The newer boards generally will still post but say the cpu is not recognised. On the Asus boards it says "Update the BIOS to unleash its full Power" Or something to that effect... then you just put the bios on a USB key and use the EZ Flash2 util and away you go..

It's an MSI P45, so hopefully it will still post. Where do I get this EZ Flash, and will a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4gb work?. Thanks.

You will have to download the bios update from the MSI site as MarcLister mentioned and copy it on to the usb stick.

Then reboot the pc with the usb stick in and enter the bios to update.

I think EZ Flash is Asus's bios update program so you will have to use which ever one the MSI boards use (don't quote me on that though).
