I just got an e8400 to replace my 2180. But i think that the temps are way wrong.

in the bios its showing 92c and i had to disable the temp monitoring to get it to boot as it shuts down at 90c

in speed fan it shows 92c
in core temp its shows 40c
in real temp it shows 40c

so i really dont know whats going on. The heatsink (AC freezer 7 pro) is cool to touch and the fan is set to 100%

I have reseated this 3 times and its definitely secured correctly.

If the heatsink is cool to the touch, can I just ask if you have checked that it is clipped properly onto the motherboard, because I have had this problem before, double checking the heatsink clip instantly fixed the problem.

I have reseated the heatsink 3 times, twice i have pulled the mobo out to make sure the clips were in right.

I really dont like this silly clip system. The more i do it the more i hate the system.

The date of that BIOS makes me think it won't have recent enought microcode to properly support the E8400, I'm sure there were some more beta bios releases from abit for the E0 stepping chips. (I'm assuming this is a new E8400 and is an E0 stepping).

i am not sure on the stepping tbh, i will have a look. i am not sure about the beta bios' i will also have to search into that too.

on the box SLB9J not sure if that means much. never really looked at the stepping before

the latest on the abit website is the 16. I will have to try and find the 18 bios.

Well I couldnt find any newer bios than the 16, so instead I opted to purchase an Asus P5Q-E P45 Socket 775 motherboard.

When I put the old chip back in the temps came back and about the 25c mark so it must be the cpu/mobo not 100% compatible with the bios.

Thanks For all the help guys.
