Hi there

I seem to be having trouble oveclocking my new E8500 & Biostar I45.

What is the simplest way to get to 4ghz? To try first I mean? Even the auto overclocking feature fails to overclock and the machine will not boot past post. Then resets itself so I can get in bios.

I have ran Prime95 6 hours blend and 4 hours small fft's no problems at stock to make sure everything is ok stick wise.

Sytem is:

Intel E8500
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX 2x2GB
Biostar I45
Enermax Noisetaker 600w
Ati 4850 512

Even manually if I raise FSB or lower multi or change voltages for cpu, ddram or chipset no joy at all. Just a black screen at boot up then the machines witches off.

Thanks

Michael

Right now I am at 3.6GHZ. vcore 1.3, dram 2.1. 375 x 9.5. That is all I have changed. Prime stable 1 hour so far.

But this bios seems buggy as anything. Many hangs and just pressing the delete button on boot to enter the bios causes the whole screen to pause. That is at stock speeds too.

I think the dram was too low as it volts at 1.8 but the Corsair is rated at 2.1.

But all the talk of people just going into the bios and making one or two changes and getting to 4ghz made me expect this to be very easy.

Any other settings I need to change to get higher?

Thanks

Michael

Its a bit early to blame the hardware I think, although you can never rule it out.

Take everything back to stock and try a bios update first.

Also play with your GTL voltages. If you are getting prime stable for 1 hour that tells me you are on the right track and just need to fine tune your settings for 8 hour stability.

Set both GTL volts to x59 and test. If not try x61 and then x63 max.

What have you got CPU PLL volts set at?

Stability is greatly assisted by taking as many settings off AUTO as possible. If PLL and GTLs are on AUTO this could be conributing to lack of stability.

Try PLL volts - 1.5v or a max of 1.6v.

Also run Memtest86 to check both sticks of RAM is not faulty.

Do you have a keyboard with a ps/2 socket. I find it much easier to enter the BIOS with these keyboards than USB ones. I tend to switch back to my usb kboard once finished overclocking.

Its a very capable board and easy to overclock on but be prepared to experiment and be patient as everyones experience will differ.

Hi there

Right now I am at 3.6GHZ. vcore 1.3, dram 2.1. 375 x 9.5. That is all I have changed in the bios. Prime stable 6 hours blend and 3 hours small fft's so far. I have run Memtest for 6 hours with no errors. Temperature at full load is 40c according to Real Temps, Core Temp 41 and the electric Biostar digital display on the motherboard reads 39c.

I know it can take time to get it right as I spent 1 month with my DFI NF4 Lan Party getting it Prime/Memetest stable with Corsair ram. Was a pain in the backside but once stable has bee nrock solid for 4 years.

All the advice you have given me Mike Gunnz I will try later as I have not changed any of these settings. Just vcore, dram fsb.

I am currently using a keyboard with PS/2 I don't use a USB one.

Thanks

Michael

Hi there.

I don't have GTL 59 option on the 2 cpu's. Just 58, 61, 63, 67. the CHL GTL has a 59 and my PLL is at 1.5 default.

What is FSB Strap? I cannot see anything with this name?

My bios is crashing many times, no response and the power on/off switcdh won't even work I have to disconnet the power supply cord to reset the machine.

Is there a new bios? I was under the impression Biostar were terrible when it came to updated bios releases. The one I have is the same one on their site dated 2008-7-10

Windows is even corrupted now lol.

But I can run Prime/Memtest for 6 hours at 3.56ghz and just increasing the vcore and dram only. No other settings I have changed.

Thanks

Michael
