Got my E8500 up to 4ghz and I'm just in the process of getting it 100% stable. It boots into windows fine however I can't run Orthos for long without an error (doesn't crash the computer though).

Spec in Sig. Running at below speeds, as you can see it runs superpi but errors after 1 min of Orthos. I have slackened the mem timings to 5-5-5-15 and I can now get about 30 mins of Orthos. Memory voltage is also up to 2.2 (stock is 2.1).

At the moment I'm at work and PC is at home running memtest to check the memory is OK at 842mhz. Whats my best plan of attack for getting it more stable? Any suggestions would be much apreciated.

Cheers

Use prime95 and run small FFTs this should mainly test your cpu. However mine is running fine at 3.9ghz with 1.36v

You should be able to get more than that. My E8400 is stable at 4.3GHz with that voltage.

What are your other important settings?? CPU VTT/PLL etc?

Most stuff is still set to auto other than ram timing/voltage and FSB, only set voltage for the CPU is the the core that is set to 1.4 in the bios.

Memtest ran fine for 13 hours while I was at work and I don't think I'm pushing the ram that hard so I might try edging the core voltage up a (little) bit?

Cheers

Upped the CPU voltage a notch (still showing about 1.39 in CPUZ) and it seems to have cured it though temps do seem to be up a little. Hits about 87-90 after an hour of Orthos and it is idling at about 50.
