E8500 OFICIAL O/C THREAD!

I'm getting a 20C drop between cores, core 0 is at 50 and core 1 is at 30

Could this just be the intel heatsink?

Hiya,

I thought I'd try posting this in here rather than starting another topic.

Never overclocked before, and just started looking at what's involved. I've been looking at CPU-Z, and it's not quite looking right to me?

Should the Core Speed not be around 3100~?

It's probably a daft and obvious question, but I don't know that answer

Thanks in advance! :)

your right not looking too good at all. your multiplier is is way too low and your core voltage is way to low. yours is a EO so should do a lot better than mine.

could you post some of your mother boards settings?

Hi,
is it two cores are 2ghz? or just one?

if it is only one in BIOS disable CE1

and set x9.5

Hi,

i pushed to 4.2ghz mine...(STOCK COOLER)but it was not stable,
dropped to 4ghz was fine, but crysis was crashing after loading any level, same COD4 and other new games, after 15-30min of play "stop responding"

dropped to 3.8ghz almost everything on auto was fine stable, but again only crysis was crashing and prince of persia was loading like i have P3!

Two days ago started to use stock speed 3.16ghz- crysis runs great and all games never crashes...and loading time i cant say that is slower!

probably will do O/C when i have a better cooler, or any other suggestions?

It's just idling, you narnas!
Intel speedstep drops the multiplier when it's not doing anything, try running Prime95 in the background and see what it says then!.

For those interested I have just got 4608mhz stable on my E8500 using the 9x multi.

I've had my E8400 up there at 1.4v Gurusan, but it was getting too hot, too quickly, what cooler are you using and what sort of temps after a couple of hours of stress testing?, I was hitting 73 degrees (and gradually rising) under Prime95 with an unlapped AC7 and stock paste.

I'm under watercooling so temps aren't really an issue.

The AF 7 pro is an excellent cooler for the money, but compared to the more expensive coolers is not that great. If you are running into temperature walls and want to push further I recommend something like the Tuniq Core contact freezer.

Also lower VID chips tend to run very hot. The chip I have now is 1.1825VID and I am currently getting about 65C during priming at 1.408V actual 4.64ghz, this is under watercooling...so I'd imagine air would be a bit roasty.
