E8500 quick temp/voltage question

Hi all

Just installed my new E8500 and just have a quick question about temps:

Stock settings under a tunic, on an Asus Maximus Formula measured using RealTemp:
Idling at 25/32
Burn at 42/44

VID is 1.2250, i'm going to try to overclock to 3.8 if possible, what is the max safe temp for these chips? A few months ago max 'safe 24/7' voltage was 1.35, is that still the case?

Thanks guys, keep reading different things, just wondering what the latest was for these wolfdales :)

Temps are more important than voltage. Just keep them under 60degrees and see how far you can go.

I guess that's why Intel implement thermal cut-out rather than a overvolt cut-out

OK thanks guys. The temps i'm currently getting at stock were with prime small ffts so i'm hoping i can make it to 3.8 and keep the temps within limits.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've now hit 3.8ghz with no problems - just needed a tiny bit more juice in the north bridge and vcore. Temps reach 52C max when priming small ffts which i'm very happy with :) I do have one small oddity though.

Before I had an overclocked Q6600 on the same board (Asus Maximus Formula). When I booted the machine from cold, it started, then stopped, then booted again no problems - presumably something to do with the overclock. But when cold booting with the E8500, it starts, stops, then tries to start again but doesn't boot. If I then press the power switch it starts fine. Weird. Can't make it out at all. I'm using the latest BIOS (1207).

Anybody know what might be causing this?
