Hi there,

Im finally after an upgrade from this Athlon 64 3000+. :D

Ive seen the above two mentioned in recent threads and was wondering on any tips as to which will be better ?

I mainly use this rig for gaming so it would seem the 8500 is better, but im not entirely sure.

As well as a new CPU im after a new Mobo so any reccomendations do go with these CPU's ?

Thanks in advance.

E8400 imo, if your looking E8500, Q9450 is same price ish.

so many mobos, above two mentioned, dfi p35 t2r and abit ip35 and pro, foxconn etc,

best atm X38-X48 offerings.

Well im just after a decent processor, the 8500 seemed good.

whats X38-X48 ?

They are the newest intel chipsets on motherboards, X38 is quite new, the maximus formula is and X38, X48 is a very new one, the rampage formula is X48.

Clock for clock they will be about the same in many of the games available today, in some games and in future games the quad will come out on top.

If your a person that upgrades/changes parts every few months then a dual would be okay I guess, long term I would only recommend a quad at those prices.
