E8500 Which Heatsink & Fan?

Looking to purchase a new heatsink and fan, but there is so much choice out there :confused: I had originally planned on getting one of these Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is there anything better or are they still a good choice and if so what fan to go with it? Also noticed that most of these fans are huge so it would have to fit in my Silverstone TJ07

Thanks for the replys I did some more reading and it ony confused me more..... sigh!!!

From what I've read the TRUE may need lapping due to it having an uneven base :eek: and further reading a lot of folks think the OCZ Vendetta 2 was as good if not better and its far cheaper anyone used this cooler is it that good?

have to say this topic pops ups every single week without fail, it's like a rite-of-passage choosing your first performance heatsink! :D

I commend you on having at least done some research and not posting a thread called "what's the best heatsink?" :o

Another thing I have to say is their are thousands of armchair-experts posting opinions about a lot of products they have never used, they read stuff then write about it in other forum posts, this is read by another armchair-expert who repeats the process!

Before long the difference between fact and fiction becomes blurred and certain details get grossly exaggerated, point in case being the way some people described the base of TRUE, it's just getting more and more out of proportion as the TRUE is a serious piece of kit and cannot fail to impress once you actually own one! :D

It has one single downside and that is the price, it's a costly solution compared to other heatsinks so you have to ask yourself why? Is it because Thermalright are pricing-up their heatsinks based on their brand name or is it because it's a flippen good product?

Theres no denying its a fab looking cooler (dam you for posting that pic) :cool: and to be honest I was going to buy this, but the more I read the more it confused me so many different/conflicting posts on this :rolleyes: and yes your right m8 it's probably been discussed many times over just that like you said, but its my first look at coolers for a long time and the choice is staggering :confused: If I do go ahead and purchase this cooler what fan would you recommend I prefer someting quite over performance?
 
As the chassis I am using is pretty well cooled and I am not pushing large amounts of vCore through my chip I use the TRUE passive!

There are many threads on fans, posters locked in endless debates as to what is a good fan etc. I am not a fan expert and have always just used Akasa Ambers and Sharkoon Silent-Eagles with good results but once I installed the TRUE I decided to test it out passive and thats the way its stayed for the past 3-4months. . .
