E8600 from OcUK..

only managed 4.6Ghz, I'm probably FSB limited, I only managed the same with my E8400.

bummer.

Running Orthos @ 4.375Ghz at the moment with 1.35v though, lets see how long it lasts :) I gave 4.2Ghz 2hrs

ooooooooo i'm up to 60C after 10mins, still running though.

No idea, I read some claim they get hot after 1.4v, I ain't tried anything over 1.2v yet as I cant OC FSB far with 45nm Bioses (so far) for this Mobo.

From the experience i have had with mine so far, 1.46v/1.47v upwards they start getting very hot. Under my phase at 1.47 full load it's getting up to -10c. To put that into perspective, my E8500 at 1.568v never got higher than -23c under full load. These are some very hot running cpu's

Hmm just received a week 20 E8600 from OcUK. Hope it's not a duffer. Will try it out tonight. FPO# Q820A670

Shmo, how's it going with your week 20 E8600? I got mine today (Q820A670) and I'm not too sure about it. It's slightly disappointing, only hitting 4GHz stable in OCCT with 1.325V. I am using the stock Intel cooler, though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things improve when I replace it with something better (probably a Xigmatek s1283).

This is on an Asus P5Q-E with latest BIOS, btw.

Seeing shots like the one below really p!ss me off now!

Will be a few more days before I can try it, waiting on replacement parts for a Zalman and some other things. Will post here ASAP.

My E8500 (also a good sample and did 4.5GHZ) needed 1.328v to be Orthos stable at 4GHZ.

This is my new E8600 after 1 day and I have not tried lowering voltage any more so far, I will though. ;)

E8600 have unlocked multi? Is that what makes em better than the E8500? Or do they just have 10x Multi's by default? Thats an awsome multi!

I had a 6850 at 3.6mhz which my friend bought off me so i thoguht i'd go for the e8600
I have the week 20 cpu, i have it overclocked 4ghz
It only seems to boot at 1.34 v and it idles around 47-48 c (which seem kinda high compared with my old 6850

Is my motherboard the problem ?

My mobo is a p5n32 sli plus
can be found here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...rce (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

I had to update the bios before it would work at all.

Apparently the screenie helmutcheese posted is of it stable and its apparently been posted Orthos stable:

it was Orthos stable in all 4 Tests with a Noctua 120mm Cooler with the Fan at 0RPM (yes ZERO), right out the box brand new within 15mins of 1st boot.

he was trying to cook the AS5 to bed it in. :p

Apparently.

Very nice. Is it IntelBurnTest stable, too, I wonder? That program is HARDCORE.

BTW, anyone recommend a good cooler? I was about to purchase a Xigmatek s1283 but it won't fit in my Wave Master! Now I need something a little smaller (in height).

See if you can fit a nice Thermalright Ultra 120 in. If not then the Scythe range offer the best performance for limited size to my knowledge.
