Upgraded from Q6600 to E8600 - should be running at 3.33Ghz (333 x 10) but cpu-z says it's only running at 3.0 (333 x 9).

Went into the BIOS to change the Multiplier to 10 and the BIOS says the FSB is still 266?! Do I have to change that to 333 as well (even though cpu-z says it's already 333) or should I only change the multiplier? Is the BIOS wrong?

Cheers.

Have you tried a CMOS reset, as I needed to do this when changing form a Q6600 to a E8600, The BIOS should detect the multiplier and FSB.
Also double checkyour BIOS rev, you might need a update.

Cheers, no I didn't reset CMOS actually.

Yeah could be a problem with the BIOS too, it says Yorkfields were supported by F8 BIOS but E8600 only lists a beta bios - F9f. Earlier flash failed for no good reason and luckily the dual-bios kicked in. Really don't want to flash again, especially to a beta bios unless I have to.

Is there anything potentially wrong with just switching the multiplier to 10 manually?

Ive always set the multiplier manually on everything ive had, Im sure auto defaults to a lower value on both my PCs and it did on the PC i built recently for a friend.
