So if the general concensious is that the E92 isnt currently worth the money they command what does?. What would you be spending your 16K on or would you be keeping hold of the E46 330D. Its coming up to 84K so i don't want to have it much longer than another 6 months.

It's why I didn't move from E46 to E90. The problem you have is that if you want to stay with a premium, large-engined, diesel coupé, you're quite limited to what you can get.

I like the F30, but to be honest, I'd rather have an F10.

Maybe an A5? http://pistonheads.com/sales/4162072.htm, http://pistonheads.com/sales/3462845.htm

Personally, doing that sort of mileage, I'd be after something to waft around in in luxury not a coupe, so a Jag XF Diesel. Not sure what the build quality is like in comparison though.

I'd keep the e46 for the foreseeable future (12-18 months) with the BMW warranty you have on it.

Can't think of anything considerably better for the difference in money (double?!).

Keep running your E46 until something decent is in price range. If thats 6 months great if its 24 months so what? It's not going to explode at 100k miles and provided you pay monthly for your BMW warranty its not going to cost more or have less warranty cover, either.

And it's too old for you to fret about resale.

So much money is wasted changing cars for the sake of changing cars, if you know what you wanrt and you want it then great but if you don't why bother, just wait until the day arrives where you definately know what you want.

I disagree with a lot of the comments above.

When I changed my E46 touring for an E91, I found it to be a much better car and don't know what people are talking about them rattling (I also owned an E90 and that didn't rattle either). The E90's are a better drive and generally nicer place to be than the E46in my opinion.

F30 wont be in that price range any time soon and when you hit 100k in your current car it will be harder to sell.

I was thinking of keeping my E92 for another year at least, then look at upgrading. Although I have my first child arriving in December, so may think about changing if we struggle with both owning 2 door coupes!
Not really had any problems with the e92 interior apart from the seatbelt assistance arm missing the belt on the drivers side.
Perhaps coming from a Megane and previously a Honda I have different standards!
I thought I had an interior rattle at one point, but it turned out to be a button in the ash-tray!

Thanks for everyone's advice, i think i will leave it until February and make another call then. Car is currently in BMW whilst they try to find why my washer fluid res only stays full for a few days. Currently have a brand new 320d which sounds like a tractor. Would i ever have a 4 pot diesel by choice again, not a chance.

+1
Maybe the E9x series had more QC issues, but we owned an E46 330i sport and now have an E91 330i. I can't think of a single area that the E46 was better. Sure, the SatNav makes me want to take a hammer to it because it's a 2006 with no postcode entry, but otherwise:
- The autobox is smoother and the additional gear seems to have improve economy on long runs
- We went for an SE this time and the rider doesn't shake our teeth out
- More front to rear leg room
- Interior quality seems to be very similar. No rattles or creak from either
- Seems to handle at least aswell, despite being an SE vs a sport
- There are a host of smaller "changes", that add to the feel good factor and make a difference to the pleasure of ownership, e.g. minor changes to the controls for the cruise control, meaning that you hit one fewer button to engage it
- Some of the engines in the E9x were revised. Can't comment on the diesel, but our petrol engine does have a better responsiveness
