Hi,

Just got my new (used) E90 330i, and wondered if the wing mirrors are meant to demist when you use the front shield demist button? I got out to my car this morning and had a lot of condensation on it, so I hit the demist buttons for both front and rear windows. The blowers powered up and the front windscreen cleared, but nothing happened to either the wing mirrors or the rear window.

I left it for about a minute but since nothing was happening I just wiped them clean. Just wondering if there is a setting somewhere I missed in order to get these things working.

The LEDs were lit on both buttons, and I had the climate control set to Auto.

Any advice appreciated.

They heat with the rear screen button IIRC, so if nothing is happening to your rear window either, I'd suggest you have a problem with the circuit.

Just for other people investigating this, I just found this over at e90post

"The door mirror heating is controlled dependent on the outside temperature and whether the wipers are switched on.

With wipers switched off:
Below 5°C = 100% continuous heating
Above 5°C = 0% heating

With wipers switched on:
Below 5°C = 100% continuous heating
From 5 to 10°C = 75% heating
From 10 to 15°C = 50% heating
From 15 to 20°C = 25% heating
Above 20°C = 0% heating

There is no fault with system operation. Customers should be informed that this is how the door mirror heating function operates.
However, if the customer’s car is installed with automatic rain sensor (option code 521) suggest that the wiper switch could be set to the automatic interval position in order to benefit from maximum heating function of the door mirrors."

Still not sure why the rear didnt demist but will give the auto wipers a go.

Yep ive got heated wing mirrors too. Had a lot of condensation built up too. Hit the de-mist button and boom steam was coming off the wing mirrors :p

OK fair enough, on my previous car it was the front screen heater that did the wing mirrors. No doubt it will be misted up tomorrow morning so I'll have another play then.

Just to re-iterate, I did turn the rear window demister on as well.
