Hi all,

Been looking at BMW E92 3 series coupes for a few months now and spotted this one earlier today which seems like a decent example. 60 plate LCI M Sport with 74k on the clock, for £13k:

I know people will scoff at the fact it's a 320d, however it seems well specified with things I want like the Professional Navigation system and Harman Kardon sound system. My point of reference is a Fiesta 1.6 petrol and I now do around 16k mileage a year which is mostly motorways. I'm not looking to change my car to save money, but I believe the E92 would be a much nicer place to spend my commutes plus occasional trips to either ends of the country.

It has 18" wheels rather than 19" and M Sport suspension delete which appeals. A friend has an M Sport with 19" wheels and the ride quality is horrendous over rough surfaces and potholes. I believe most of the other stuff such as leather, cruise, PDC, xenons etc. are standard. Do LCI 320d have start/stop?

Is there anything I should look out for, or be aware of with these? I'm aware of the timing chain issue and would most likely get the BMW warranty for about £70 p/m with the £100 excess. Does the car look reasonably priced, or should I be pushing for a lower one? I'll be trading in a 2011 Fiesta Zetec S and paying cash for the difference.

Does anyone also have advice with regards to negotiating a deal via phone/email? This car is 250 miles away and I've always bought cars more local in the past.

Any input or flaming because "it's a 4 pot diesel" appreciated. Thanks.

As above. Do not, repeat, do not buy a car from bigmotoring world under any circumstances. They are so dodgy I am surprised they haven't been investigated. The way they conduct business is to sell dodgy cars at low prices to ensnare idiots.

They don't let you test drive cars unless you agree to buy it, they charge a large "admin fee" for BUYING THE CAR and if there is anything wrong with the car do not even bother attempting to take it back to them. We all know car traders will grumble and attempt to get out of fixing a car they've sold, but big motoring world take this to a new level.

Hmm.. Sounds like they are best avoided then, quite a few unhappy people and some eye opening stories on there. I did speak with a salesman yesterday with some further questions about the car and he didn't sound too enthusiastic on getting back to me with answers. You guys have potentially saved me from a world of nightmares and hassle, cheers.

Fox - I was originally looking for one under 60k for that reason, but this seemed well specced and cheap enough that the increase in warranty cost seemed ok.

I'm not in any rush to change so will keep scouting Autotrader and the AUC site until the right one comes up.

If you feel that they are unfair to consumers, committing fraud or doing dangerous or illegal practices, i'd recommend that you contact Citizen's Advice, who can then relay on to Trading Standards, ActionFraud/Police.
