Hi Guys,

Was just reading the thread regarding the remap of the 335i which i must say has tempted me!

It got me thinking about the problem i'm having with my lights atm - and i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the problem i'm having!

When i bought the car, it had blue lights both on the main beam and the angel eyes (2 rings).

About 2 months ago the angel eyes went on one side. I took out the faulty one which i realised was an aftermarket set (the ultra bright ones that you can buy on ebay for £40-50) - so i bought a set of identical ones which i fitted and they didn't work. I took the car to a local place where they fit these all day (at a cost of £170 for what is essentially the same thing!) and they didn't work either - the guy suggested it was either a fuse or a wiring problem.

I had the turbos changed at BMW, and i mentioned the problem to them - but the guy even said i would be spending a lot of money for them to investigate the problem and fix it, it wasn't covered on warranty, and that i was fine to just use the normal headlights without the rings

So i'm not sure where to go from here - the fuses seem ok, but i don't wanna be spending a lot of money on this.

Any help would be much appreciated - i think i have explained the problem well enough!

Thanks in advance guys :)

Are the angel eye lights hard to fit? You paid £170 to someone to fit some lightbulbs??

Noooo never! He just fitted a set to test if they worked or not - i would never pay that much for what is essentially the same thing you can buy and fit yourself for £40!!

Just from a quick read around, it appears the fitting dodgy LED angel eye bulbs can burn out the wiring. Mi?ght be something to check.

Yea i read about this - thing is though i've been driving with the lights before one of them was faulty for around 9 months and then suddenly one just went.

Its sounds like the control unit is blown, same thing happened on my friend 1 series (not sure if they are the same) he had to have a new control ECU fitted and it was about 250 quid.

Did he try the angel eye led kits and then have the same problem?

Thanks for your help guys - is there a way though i can know for sure whether it is a wiring issue or a light unit issue?

Sounds like somebody has broken the headlights with dodgy aftermarket mods, blue Angel eyes :(

Depending on the damage you may need new light units.

EDIT - as i say, they were fine for at least 9 months (since i've driven the car) and maybe more from when the previous owner was using the car.

Well i say blue, but there basically the colour of the newer OEM lights that are white/blue kind of colour.

The thing i'm worried about is the cost of finding out whether or not it is the wiring/control unit/ light unit etc - is there an easier way to tell?

Someone bought a car with angel eyes, then changed them, for angel eyes.

I am confused.

The previous owner had changed the OEM gold colour rings to the ones above in the picture nas has put up.

I replaced them like for like and the new ones have never worked - leaving me with main lights only!

Whats confusing?!

That's someone other than the op guessing at what they are like. I would say they are white - you can get bright blue ones and that's what I took the op as having given he said blue :)

What's confusing is why you would buy a badly modified car in the first place :p

I was hoping we had a few years yet till e92s started popping up with blue lights.

When you get it fixed go for stock :)

It wasn't badly modified! Blue was a bad description i must admit - they are like the lights in both of the photos other members have posted on this thread! It looks like i may have put dodgy bulbs in which has damaged the wiring/lighting units :(

I had stock gold rings in for a while and i really didn't like them and would prefer a more 'white' light - are you more in favour of the gold colour light?

Depends on the ones you get if they are designed for the e92 then they will work fine with no error codes. I am not keen on the yellow look angel eyes, my LEDs work fine and no error codes. Just putting any H8 LED bulb in can end up with the cost of a new light module. It is a 5minute job to change the bulbs as long as you have small hands . . . . took me longer though.:D

Any tips on where to source ones designed specifically for the E92? When i get the problem fixed i would still like the white rings! It looks like i bought generic ones which have damaged either the wiring or light units themselves.

There is nothing wrong with the stock OEM angel eyes. To even want to change them for anything different puts me a little beyond comprehension, if I'm honest :(

Well we have differing opinions! Both look good, but as I bought it with the white lights, i've got used to them and i know no different! Don't the newer e92's have white/blue colour lights now?

Personally I prefer the crisp white look to the yellow glow and that was the only thing I didn't like about the look of the car. There are loads of plug and play LEDs and I tried a few but to get decent ones that are bright in daylight costs.:( Lux H8 V3 or CPD

Either that or look at M-TEC, whiter than stock halogens (MTEC left, LUX right).

Another plus for me is the LUX do not dim on sidelight or when the headlights are on.

Thanks for the link, will definitely look into these...although, as you say, they are quite expensive!

Also - you have a wrong coloured and wonky numberplate on the front :D
