This rant relates to C&C 3

EA have released 2 patches in as many days is utterly ****ing stupid. The 1.07 patch comes out which is ~200Mb, 1.08 is 216Mb!!! all to fix a issue with ONE UNIT!!!! Why the **** do they need a patch that size to fix a cockup like that??

I mean I know EA are terrible at getting games right but this borders on why the hell do EA make games any more?

Kimbie

No swearing.

Zefan.

Ok i can accept that, however when 1.08 address one issue, so why not just release an incremental patch?

The fact 1.07 came out on the 24th/25th Aug then 1.08 comes out 28th Aug thats 400Mb of patches in 3/4 days which is just stupid and how that bug got through patch testing is beyond me

So peeps installing game today can grab 1 patch thats 1.08, thats why as it inc all previous fixes.

'Everyone' has broadband nowadays so even on a slowass 1meg connection, it only takes half an our to download 200meg.

I much prefer cumulative patching to incremental patching these days... for example until 1.4 Far Cry was appalling, you had to patch THREE TIMES! to get to the latest version: 1.3, 1.31 and 1.33.

I know it doesnt take long, but my gripe is, they missed this in the 10 mins of beta testing they did for the 1.07 patch. And since 1.08 only address one issue I think it is stupid to include the previous fixes

Moan when they release patches, Moan when they don't :p
Who'd be a game producer.

Just be glad its not TDU. Months they took to even confirm a patch, then it kept slipping back. Then when they did release it, it didn't fix all the bugs and changed some of the sounds in the game.

Don't get me started on TDU. The beta on Fileplanet really removed any trace in my mind that I wanted to buy the game and I'm glad I didn't from what I've heard about the support for it. I'm quite impressed with the amount of support given for an EA game for a change even if a lot of things have been fixed that probably should have been sorted before release.

Don't tempt me. ;)

Yeah its a cracking game; its just horrendously supported.

I was just doing a race and for some reason it just slowed down and was stuttering. It was like a 486 processor had been swapped for my 3700. It was just stupid. I couldn't drive and had to quit the game. Now why on earth does this happen in certain situations?!

I had maximum settings on and half the time it looked like GTA3 running on a slow machine (only road directly around you appeared high resolution, all around in the distance blurred until you reached it). It also stuttered a fair amount and any chance of steering without a wheel was a chore in my opinion.

Everyone loves to bash EA, but contrary to the myth they do patch most of their games. Much better than publishers like Atari.
