EA: 'We'll be gaming's greatest company'

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has said that he wants to make his company what 'Disney is to animation and NBC is to television'.

Speaking to the Financial Times (via MCV), Riccitiello said his priority wasn't being number on in the charts, but placing EA in history as videogame's all-time greatest company.

"I read a book on how every medium creates one great company: animation created Disney, CBS was created by radio, NBC by television," he said.

"Interactive entertainment is going to determine one great company and I think it's this one. One of the reasons I've come back is to try to take it to the next step."

He added: "Above all, I'm trying to bring great quality and innovation back . . . I'm also trying to drive us towards a variety of new business models, whether it be subscription or micro-transactions, or advertising-based."

We appreciate EA saying it's not all about the money, but hasn't Nintendo already gone down as 'the Disney of videogames'?

Let us hope that they continue increasing the quality of their output, and have better support and more playtesting so less bugs are in the retail product. Here's hoping! :D

If every company wasn't thinking that then I'd be a bit worried for them.

Totally inappropriate thread title imo.

Fair point, but if they want to be the best, I think they should answer to the problems people have with them.

Problems people have with EA:

No new patch for battlefield 2 - not too sure of this one.
Re-charging for downloads from their store - should follow Steams' example.
Releasing games in an unfinished state - debatable but I'm sure people can list problems they've had.
Endless Sim add-on packs - :p .
Buying out and closing studios.
Giving different studios games that are not theirs. Maxis got Sim City taken off them and then the other company that did do it didn't even make it a Sim City game.

If they want to be a market leader, they have to act like one, and not own everything (all big name IPs') in order to keep their banks turning over. I wouldn't have an issue with them if they didn't suck the competition up and into their pockets.
