EA Blocks Multiplayer Mode on secondhand Console Games

If companies like EA had infrastructure in place to support the games then I see no problem with this as it only affects the online portion of the game. However, I believe that most xBox games (no idea about PS3 games) use a P2P multi-player system that they have to pay a monthly fee to use making the whole thing a bit of a scam.

lol @ buying second hand games.
Don't forget brand new console games normally cost stupid high prices like about £35 to £45 per game...

Over 95% of my PC games i buy brand new...But many of my console game i buy secondhand because of there prices...i completely refuse to pay about £40 for a game..

What the bets all the games for the next gen Consoles (PS4/xbox460) with be serial key-coded to the console like most PC games are to completely wipeout the secondhand game market..

Good, it was about time they made this move, maybe more companies will follow suit as well - they are making and financing these games (unlike Gamestop who does exactly what again?) so it`s only natural they want to maximize profit from them. :o Hopefully game prices will go down as well if this kicks off since one of the possible reasons for high prices is the 2nd hand market. Unless they are greedy ******** like A*******on...

Some will be put off buying games knowing they won't be able to sell them on. I know I will, I've already bought a series of games that I KNOW I will want to sell when finished - and wouldn't have bought if I were not able to. £40 for a game that will give say 10 hours of gameplay is a joke. Knowing I can sell it and redeem half, or more, of that £40 was a deal breaker.

Good, I work in the game development and places like GAME etc earn far too much on pre-owned games, maybe this will stem the flow abit.

Dj_Jestar -: At a guess I'd say they would make the missing content addition DLC for the 2nd user.

Yes, it simply MUST be the consumers fault, and not a flaw with the industry CHARGING TOO DAMN MUCH.

They're all to blame though, the games are more expensive for the initial purchase to try and offset the loss made on second hand sales. Second hand sales are so popular as the initial cost is so high.

If this has the intended effect of killing the second hand market then it should result in a reduced initial cost but I doubt there would be a marked reduction in the rrp.

The other thing is I'd imagine a lot of new purchases are made on the strength of second hand sales, that is people heading into their local game shop with some old games they're trading in for a new model. Remove the second hand market and I would imagine that it would have a detrimental effect on new game sales as a lot of people can't afford the €50-€60 console games sell for.

Didn't EA try to shed their bad image and people said Activision we're the new EA. EA will always be the EA

They did something that made me like them a while back but for the life of me i can't remember what it was now

Ah well back to the familiar smouldering hate of EA :D

a lot of the problem with games is the stupid high prices they tend to be.

thats one good thing about places like steam. The prices of games are so high coz of all the middlemen taking a large cut, shops, publishers, distributers, all make a lot of profit, a lot more than the actual developers make usually.

but then i've seen pc games online for £40-50 and u can get the same game brand new from a shop for less than £20

If EA keep doing silly things like this, they will start to lose customers, but im sure they will just blame thier drop of sales on pirates

I can't believe what i'm reading. I'd say fair enough if it was like PC games where you get a key code, but having to pay extra money for the online portion is just plain horrendous.

I posted this thread linking to the one in the console forum because many PC gamers like myself rarely look in the console forum..

well probably because they aren't interested in console games :p Just seems a bit redundant discussing the same thing in two different places, especially as it's a console thing.
