Not sure if this has been posted...
EA are closing servers for FIFA 11, Madden 11 and NHL 11 I think at the end of January.

It was on Xboxachievements website, which I cant link to for specifics cause I'm at work, but just a heads up if it hasnt been posted already.

EA was voted the worst company in the world by americans.. and I can fully understand why. Their monopoly on sports licenses really need to be investigated, it reduces competition and damages development in gaming.

Erm what, others have tried and failed to take EA on in many of the sports games they make.

Pro Evo in the past has shown that if you have the better game then people will buy it regardless of a license.

There are alternatives to each franchise though, 2K Games were making NBA and NHL games for ages and if they've stopped making them it's because they weren't selling. If they weren't selling then they obviously weren't as good as the competition so if anyone is to blame it's the rival developers for not making games with decent enough gameplay. Plus most games that don't have official licenses for all players and teams usually have some sort of editor where people can put whatever players and teams they want into the game.

Are they not just closing servers that have less then 1% playing, I mean fifa 11, if you wanna play online get fifa 12 or 13,

PES 2011 servers also closing the end of the month. Doesn't bother me personally. I usually sell the current Fifa before the next one comes out. The '12 iterations are pretty cheap anyway if you must be frugal with your football game purchases!

Sounds fair to me really... Just extra expense spending on servers that hardly get any multiplayer play time.

Thats the downside if it having EA servers. I'm not a massive Fifa fan so always bought last years game, that was until Fifa 11 or whatever it was when they started charging for online access. Now I cant play any online :(

Besides, if you're an Arsenal fan, playing old copies is the only chance to play with a half decent teams.... Liverpool fans need Fifa 86 :)

Agree that old servers should be closed if usage is tiny on the old games.....however I wish they'd patch some of them to let people host their own games p2p style. At least that way it wouldn't just completely kill off the online side of the game.

I can completely understand why they don't do this though as I'm sure it costs more in money and time than its worth.

All games should have the option of p2p so the game can be enjoyed to the fullest no matter how old it is.
