EA download manager/Crysis 2

So I bought Crysis 2 (hard copy) and just installed it. After installing a pop up came up and asked to install the EA download manager.

Does anyone know why I would need to install this since I would rather avoid using this software.

i think u can download patches and such through it, not sure if they game will run with out it, give it a try

the game runs fine without it
