EA dropped from NASDAQ-100

I don't get why "gamers" celebrate this type of stuff?! Hey, EA might not be the best publisher but you can't say any of their games are really wannabe company ending terrible.

So would we all prefer a world without DICE, Bioware, Visceral Games, Criterion Games, etc, etc. Because stuff like the above will make publishers drop companies and these days no one picks them up. Activision are too busy with Blizzard, Bungie and don't mind watching a company disappear, they'll be there to grab the IP but not the teams. THQ is on the cusp, Microsoft probably isn't all that fussed with acquiring studios, Sony has plenty of its own, Ubisoft has plenty of studios and the list goes on.

If one of these big publishers were to go down you'd bet it would be some of the bigger studios to go first as they have the most risk of not turning a profit come next gen. I doubt you would see DICE just disappear into thin air but it would probably mean a lot of cutbacks at a time where gaming we all enjoy really can't be doing with cutbacks!

So yeah, random rant XD I just don't get why gamers continually celebrate the fall of AAA gaming over some of the most craziest things.

Crowd sourcing its the way forward, give it a decade and I think publishers will be struggling. IMO there's going to be a massive shift in the way business is done.

Funny I had a conversation with my friend the other day who works in the gaming industry, I mentioned offhand how EA were an evil company and he went on a mini rant about how EA were the only company that he has worked for in the last 5 years that actually treated him like a human being. He said they were a great employer and actually treated computer games as an an industry (which they are).

Must admit it kinda changed my mind about them. Its easy to slate them for their poor practises but at the end of the day there have been a lot of companies that (in my opinion) made better games but folded as they didnt know anything about how to run a company.

Just my 0.02$

Would we like them to vanish? No. Would we prefer that the games they did release actually lived up to there potential? Yes.

Hoping lots of people lose their jobs so you get free games, classy....

They don't do their jobs very well, especially those at the top. Why should I care about the workforce of a company that doesn't care about games and more importantly gamers? their games are now only on Origin, their games are now coming with downright ridiculous prices... they can sit and spin.

The good people at an outfit like Valve however, hope they remain employed forever and may they never go under for the sake of me getting a few cheap games.

The games might not be company ending, but their attitude to their customers certainly is. Churning out mediocre games with only minor improvements each year, and then having the gall to charge for dlc (that should have been included with the game in the first place).

Their blatant nickle and diming (aka money grabbing), is pretty much stuff of legend. Their wholesale wanton destruction of developers who were producing great games (Westwood Studios, Maxis, and even Bioware is a ghost of it's former glory), is second to none.

Downgrading PC gamers to a 3rd class, almost teasing them with "be thankful we still release PC games". Throwing a hissy-fit @ Steam, just because they're doing something right. Constantly not giving studios enough time to finish games, releasing shoddy games. Riding roughshod over customers wishes. Releasing 0-day dlc, and charging you again for it.

EA doesn't deserve to fail.. but by golly they are really working hard to do so.

I'm praying that this will be the wakeup call the company so desperately needs.. but I fear it'll just make them even more set in their ways of getting their smaller base of players to empty their wallets even quicker, just cos it has a shiny 13 on it.. ::sad::

The problem I have with it are the comments from armchair business men who have never graduated in Economics let alone direct a corporation. Not only that but their apparent level of inside knowledge allowing them to factually state EA's policy on many aspects of game development is nothing short of astounding.

In my mind there is nothing worse on a gaming forum that a self-entitled gamer discussing the "business" side of our hobby. To be quite frank all they do is embarrass themselves.

The unfortunate misconception you have is that the first people to go won't be the executives at the top that make all these terrible decisions but instead the rank and file employees that earn very little and have zero power over company policy.

I dislike EA's practices for the reasons listed already in this thread but I don't want any of their employees to lose their jobs.

blah, blah, blah

A perfect example appears while I was writing my own post.

EA want to make money. Big deal. So does every commercial organisation under the sun. EA have made mistakes. Big deal. So has every commercial organisation under the sun.

This is an industry, not a charity funded by investors purely to satisfy your entertainment needs.

I shudder at some of the immature comments on here regarding this. One of which goes as far as giving the finger to a workforce which would face potential unemployment. Here's hoping you hit the dole within the next few months Spektor. See how you like them apples. Not only that Spektor but your naivety knows no bounds with your backslapping of Valve. The reason Valve are where they are is due to operating a profitable business through various revenue streams. They aren't the white knights of this industry here to protect you. One of the prime reasons Gabe lashed out at Windows 8 was due to a potential anti-commercialism threat against his company's bottom line. Nothing to do with the slightly awkward Metro interface, or protecting the "gamer". Jesus get a grip.
