EA dropped from NASDAQ-100

However much I hate EA, them going under would only be a bad thing for the gaming industry at this point.

Production companies like EA will dissapear eventually once the games industry realises +1ing the film industry at every turn doesn't actually work.

I'm still sticking to my guns of never buying another EA game again and whilst it is irritating missing out on BF3 and the new Sim City it's worth it.

As someone said if EA goes down the pan (which it won't, let's be honest) others will step up and fill the void as happens in every type of industry worldwide when a big player goes under. Fresh ideas would not be a bad thing in the industry which is getting staler by the day. I tend to stick with smaller f2p games rather than recycled sequel companies. All I play these days is gw2 and ps2, games that are at least trying something new!

I find it quite ironic that you take a stand against EA, but are quite happy to support NC Soft. A company with a fantastic record of customer support and care;p

As far as your stance against EA, well that is you decision. I can't help but feel those sort of boycotts resolve nothing except cutting your nose off to spite your face.

It seems that I am in the minority here by caring about the actual individual games, not the anonymous publisher. I will play a good game no matter the platform or publisher. Seems a far more rational decision than a personal crusade against a multi-national corporation!

Why do you assume they would leave a void? Especially in pc gaming which seems to be a shrinking market (or at least one of decreasing importance)

The collapse of EA is no more likely to encourage new and innovative thinking than the collapse of any other publisher or developer. Loads of dev teams have gone under in the last few years, has this spurred new and better games......The most that could be said is that with all those people unemployed maybe some of them will take the time to come up with a new game, but they will need to live, so they will need money and to develop the game they will need at least some moneyto make it decent...which being unemployed they won't have so they will maybe sell the idea.....to activision....but hey we can trust them to not milk an idea to death can't we!

The end of a console life cycle is usually the beginning of a PC boom where developers are gearing up for "next generation" consoles by developing such games for PCs.

I can't believe the comments 'EA are a business, not a charity... etc, etc'. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE!!!

I run my own business, a small one with 5 employees and whilst running a corporation is very different, the principles are exactly the same i.e. Reasonable fee, good to excellent quality, treat customer with respect, etc, etc - all of which EA are seriously failing at.

After finding out about the Day1 ME3 DLC, I cancelled my order - didn't treat me (or their customers generally) with respect, overpriced their product compared to the quality they released and when I say quality, there are many issues here, not least the 'dumbing' down (IMO) compared to ME1. Therefore they lost a sale and a customer for life (unless they seriously change), all in the hope of squeezing a few extra quid out of me.

If I acted like them with my customers, I would have been quickly given my marching orders.

Basic Economics at uni say that elasticity will ensure that those that can come up with a better quality product (in every sense, including community involvement, etc) for the right price, then company with the poorer quality product, large overheads and large profit margins will lose ground.

As it has already been said, Crowd Sourcing & Kickstarter are creating a new market for gamers to get what they really want, just look at Star Citizen. Not necessarily cheaper, but people see what they are getting up front with feedback into the development and are not taken for a ride with DLC that should have been in the game in the first place.

If Bioware had stayed independent and had used this way of funding, I can only dream of the awesome ME2 & ME3 we would have had.

My problem with EA isn't customer service based (but there's is bad) its based on their approach.

Yes underneath it all all the companies producing games are in it for the £ notes. EA's approach is to churn out the same stuff again and again and again with little to no real development beyond minor updates. They take good franchises and turn them into listless cash cows. This boils my **** as it stifles the development of the games especially from a company with such vast resources they can afford to be innovative.

Other companies may chase the buck even the smaller devs who people love to circle jerk over but at least they tend to do do in an innovative manner (by and large) this improving and moving things along. Hence my like for GW2 and PS2.

Hell yes, I want to see all these companies crumble. They made awesome games when they were not EA's bitch. Now they deserve to die for being money grabbing, uninspired sell outs.

Do you really want to to be playing Battlefield 10 in 5 years time?

The void will spawn new creative people, driving the industry on.

Crowd sourcing its the way forward, give it a decade and I think publishers will be struggling. IMO there's going to be a massive shift in the way business is done.

I agree with the quotes above.

Very valid points in my opinion.

lol AAA gaming..

I've had so much fun with humble bundle style games lately, Osmos, don't starve, kerbal space program, FTL. And with elite 4 and star citizen coming (yet more kickstarter games).

Sadly, Triple A/AAA games have come to mean games that have had loads of money thrown at them, when in the past it was a mark of quality.

To me, Super Meat Boy is an "AAA" game simply because if its consistently high quality. I think I paid about £3~ odd for it and I have had about 60 hours out of it so far, and I'm still not done with it.

With that type of game, I like to get 100% completion.

For me, the games from smaller developers are where the top quality is now.

Like Super Meat Boy above, and the Oddworld series.
