EA make a bid to buy Take-Two

It's just fashionable for some reason to dislike EA.

It's because EA has a history of assimilating beloved development studios, treating them badly, then closing them and usually splitting up the creative talent to work on endless sequels and shovelware. Eg: Bullfrog, Origin, Westwood, all of the Jane's studios. It's something other publishers are guilty of, but none to the extent of EA. This is something EA themselves recently admitted that they were wrong to do.

Then there's the numerous stories over the years of how EA treat their employees.

EA have recently been improving in my mind, but this buyout would suck. If EA buys TakeTwo then with the exception of Pro Evo there will no longer be any competition in the sports gaming world at all. That's a terrible thing for us gamers. Maybe those of you who only care about football wont see the big deal, but how would you feel if EA buys Konami next and then FIFA becomes the only football game on the market?

There already is no competition. Conami blew it big time with a game that if EA brought out the world and his wife would call for a religious war. Pro Evo 2008 is without doubt the worst/most buggy game i've played in my life.

If Ea had brought that game out people would have had a field day. Yet still there is so much hatered for EA people will still try to defend that **** so as not to accept EA have buried Pro Evo this year with Fifa.

EA have improved year on year with Fifa, atleast they are trying. Conami just took the royal **** with Pro evo and dumped all over their user base.

I will never buy their crap again.

I agree that FIFA was the better game this year. But how can anyone possibly think that lack of competition would be a good thing? Do you honestly believe that EA would have stepped up with the FIFA series recently if Pro Evo wasn't gaining so much popularity? If Konami goes then EA can just sit back and rest on their laurels.

Gaining so much popularity? I was under the impression (from playing both games over the last 4 years and anyone i've ever met that has a clue) that PES was always the daddy. All versions of FIFA before 08 have been a joke.

Sales wise.

FIFA has traditionally smashed Pro Evo over the years as far as copies sold goes.

I'm talking about sales. People were finally getting a clue and FIFA was starting to lose sales. It's not a coincidence that EA then puts more effort into it and it starts getting good again.

EA have done well on the 360, maybe its because they have been using the 360 as lead platform and they have added a lot of features that have worked and be good.

I was always in the PES camp for most of the decade but 2008 was like played a EA fifa game back in the day, a poor same old churned out piece of rubbish.

Competition is a good thing and I dont really want EA to have no competition, because things could get sloppy, they could easily pay half a team to revise a last years game.

EA are one of the worst employers in terms of perks and work load.

Depends if EA want to make money or good games and I can easily see people boycotting EA if they are not careful.

Rockstar own the rights to GTA don't they? And is it possible they can split from take two in the future?

You know for sure GTA will suck monkey **** if EA owned it.. buggy gameplay!

Buying companies out is a great way to get ahold of their IPs. Once you have the company you don't neccessarily need to keep the development studio previously involved in a franchise in the loop. Shut it down and shift production to somewhere cheaper, and if you're feeling generous offer the (now) unemployed developers a job several hundred/thousand miles away. I think this is what happened to DICE (who made Battlefield) when EA bought em.
