ok, so i reinstalled windows the other day, finally got my broadband connection today, went to reinstall fifa 12, but its saying the product key has already been activated  do i have to repurchase it?
steam is soooo much less hassel, it just remembers my stuff and i just redownload it, origin seems a bit, well, poor.

Origin for me has been "ok" but it lacks all the benefits of Steam and takes all of the negatives of Steam. Aside from BF3, BC2 (which Origin took ownership of!? Retail disk) and Burnout Paradise (free) I doubt I'll ever use it again

did yo purchase BF3 via origin? i purchased fifa 12 from someone else, so not sure if this is the problem? i assumed, like steam, it would be tied to my origin account, so aslong as i was only logged in on 1 pc i could install it on as many as i wanted.

BF3 from an Origin code (some company in Russia :p). If I log into Origin/EA from a browser it shows I own BF3 and BC2 (which I got retail DVD and somehow linked to my EA/Origin account)

Do you perchance have an Origin account and and older EA account?

I've had a few problems with Origin not remembering my actvation key with Crisis 2 and using up my unlocks.

If Fifa 12 is anything like Crisis 2 you may only get a set amount of unlocks. I've had the same problem and had to ring EA for them to reset my unlocks again which is 5 from memory.

ummm maybe, im not sure, but it was definatly activated via this account, but it doesnt show up in my games list :( i got it from a digital download site, so i have all the installation files on my HDD, but its just not letting me get passed the key, keeps saying its already been activated

Your supposed to uninstall / reinstall EA games from within origin otherwise it still thinks there installed on another pc

Contact their support they should help you sort it out

the problem was windows went bad, so i had to reinstall, so no way of uninstalling the game first. it seems like a pretty bad system, surely if im installing it via my origin user account, then i can only play it on 1 pc at a time, so like with steam it shouldnt matter how many pcs its on.

The first time I installed Fifa 12 it let me download with the DVD key (boxed copy) but kept saying I didn't have a valid copy when I tried to log in within the game. Took about 3 times on EA Live chat and a LOT of moaning to get another valid key.

EA suck, have inept customer support, and don't know their arse from their elbow. Good luck getting your game reinstalled though. :)

Its just EA customer support number. Should be able to get it online. If you struggle to find it, im sure I can dig it out for you.

they only seem to have email support on their site :( have sent them an email, will wait for a reply, i assume they wont work weekends so will be monday at the earliest now, just seems soo poor from such a big company.

No matter what I do with my pc, i always seem to upset origin. It's like an extremely distrustful and stroppy woman.

Yup! they are **** poor from my experience, they may also end up giving you a new product key which i've known in the past. Il trust you some details and a contact number.

It is awful, especially now they have made it even harder to contact them(was trying to get in to livechat but couldn't find it anymore).
I am trying to play ME2 atm and getting dlc and everything to register is a nightmare(though that is more than partly down to Bioware as well)
