Electronic Arts Goes Hostile on Take-Two

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) — Video game maker Electronic Arts Inc. said Thursday that it has launched a hostile $2 billion tender offer for rival Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., the publisher of "Grand Theft Auto" and other video games.

The move takes the offer directly to Take-Two's shareholders after Take-Two rejected the offer late last month.

At the time, Take Two had said it was open to talks with Electronic Arts but wanted to wait until April 30, the day after the latest version of Grand Theft Auto hits store shelves.

The $26 per share cash tender offer from an Electronic Arts' subsidiary represents a 4 percent premium to Take-Two's closing stock price of $24.91 on Wednesday and a 64 percent premium to the company's Feb. 15 closing stock price, which was the last trading day prior to Electronic Arts' revised offer.

The tender offer, which is not contingent on financing, is set to expire at midnight on April 11, unless extended. Take-Two's annual shareholders' meeting is expected to take place on April 10.

I hope Take-Two stick to their original plan of not speaking to EA til the day after GTA: IV is released.

Not happy about it either way. I don't want to see an EA logo when loading up a GTA game, thanks.

EA have got this, TT shareholders were already up in arms after the first rejection.

This was part of EA's plan, make a bid, the board rejects it but the shareholders were interested by the offer ... so EA go straight the shareholders.

Crafty devils.

The only good this about this is that EA are long standing client of ours. Having GTA on their books would be good us, not sure how good for the series it would be though! :(

I don't think they will ruin GTA tbh. Rockstar will want to keep all rights to the production of the game and they are only tied in to T2 until 2009 so they could well walk away from EA if they aren't happy.

Are they? I thought that changed around October to 2012? Might be wrong but I'm sure I read they'd had to renew their contract.

If EA do take Take Two I can see any love that gamers have for them (EA) to go down the pan. This is a **** move and shows that EA want Take Two for there franchises rather than the team.

I would like to know what views the Take Two team have about this. If they don't want it to happen, I can imagine them quitting when it does. Doing a Gerstmann and forming another team of their own.

I don't have a problem with EA games. They are rushed and sequels every year is a little off putting. But they do produce some good titles. It's the company I don't like, the way they treat gaming like a business rather than entertainment.
