EA should be taken outside and shot in the head

Criterion are an EA owned studio, and in fact I don't think are even called criterion anymore. Actually I think what was Criterion is now EA's UK development headquarters.

The reason people think EA sucks is because they have more crap games than most companies because they are bigger than most companies. Plus EA are more blatent with their branding. Games from big companies like Ubisoft or Activision tend not to be so obviously branded, so people don't notice they make just as many crap games as EA do.
While the average review score suggest otherwise as far as crap games go, I think you have a point with the branding. There's also a lot of style with very little substance with many EA games, something which also hurts them.

Whilst I don't disagree, Ubisoft got a lot of stick a while back (despite delivering some very strong brands), EA are by far and away the biggest publisher going. They are currently in a massive phase change, turning away from movie tie-ins and focusing on more IP's as well as introducing new ones.

Need for Speed offers exactly what people expect and want from the series. People buying the new one should know what they are getting and some people like what it offers. People seem to be expecting something new and revolutionary, but NFS is NFS.

People seem all too willing to say EA are rubbish because they don't like NFS (not that it's a 'bad' game, it fills a gap in the market but to compare it with proper racing games is ridiculous), but they'll happily praise Skate (developers) and The Orange Box (publishers) to the rafters, of how about Battlefield 2 (publishers) which is still one of the best games of the last 2 years on PC.
Let us not forget the massive leaps Fifa (developers) has taken with the 08 installment, not only a massive improvement, but it actually overtook PES.

We have had a new IP in Skate which did brilliantly well in sales and reviews, we have another upcoming new IP in Army of Two which is looking very tasty, Burnout Paradise which is not only taking a massive risk in offering something the series never has in a massively open city with a level of detail not yet seen in a game of its scale.
Let us also not forget the lesser titles such as Harry Potter: OotP which, whilst advertised and obviously released as a game for children was actually an accomplished title and worth playing for any fan of the books.
EA's range fits all demographics, which is a lot more than can be said for others.

EA published Crysis, another new IP which offers some of the best graphics seen, yes it has its problems, however that's the developers side, not EA who cannot possibly be accused of rushing the developer after the game was delayed numerous times (much to the publics dismay). EA got a lot of stick for delaying the game, then stick for 'rushing' it out. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

EA, much like Microsoft are major multi-national corporations who come in for a lot of stick from people who don't know what they are talking about. There is a lot of unfounded hatred for these companies but both offer products of undoubted quality.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense in places, I'm watching TV and falling asleep as I type. :(.

Seriously, What kind of junk is Need for Speed Pro Street? It's annoyed me no end but I've nearly finished it, the speed cahllenges are mostly retarded due to the moronic AI and jittery handling, the Grip races offer no challenge or variety, the drag races are very boring and drifting is stupidly easy because you can do a variety of things to artificially increase your score.

I'm seriously considering cancelling my Burnout Paradise pre-order.

Hey mate, sorry for ignoring your message the other day, I forgot to message back! Truth is I don't have the game anymore, I was only borrowing it off a friend!

I agree with you though, it just got tedious towards the end, I dominated every race but it took ages and bored the hell out of me. At first I thought it was quite good!

It is not a myth at all. Most EA titles have or have had issues that other games simply don't. These range from poor game or gameplay design to bugs.
lmao...

seriously

also, all Nintendo games are made from stardust in a magical factory where elves use magic to take games from the fun dimention and zap them straight into your living room.

The only time i've been particularly annoyed with EA in recent years was when they tried (sometimes with success) to use their financial muscle to obtain sole rights to officially licensed sports games.

One of the big american sports gave in (baseball was it?) and now the only game on the market with real players and tournaments is the yearly EA Sports drivel.

I don't mind EA generally, but when they use their money to reduce competition it gives them a bad name.

Lets take some games that EA have released in 2006/7 then. EA developed or not, anything with their name on it has the potential to be lacking in some way it seems...

I'm not saying they don't make some good games and I'm not saying that other developers don't do the same. But they don't exactly have a good track record and their customer support makes it even worse.

Crysis - Rushed and buggy
C&C3 - Rushed and half broken on launch
ProStreet - Absolute rubbish
NFS Carbon - Huge let down
Hellgate: London - Crap and buggy
Rail Simulator - Crap
MoHA - Crap and buggy
All Sims titles - More of the same, just a money cow
BF2142 - Rushed out mod of BF2, a huge let down
The Godfather - Rubbish in every way
Nascar 08 - Just another mindless racing game
The Simpsons Game - Boring, short and bad camera
All EA Sports titles - Some good games but just more of the same

I'm not saying this because it's apparently cool to do so btw. I have been known to defend Microsoft before now!

Do you realise how many games are perfect in every way? It's very, very few.

And some of those 'faults' are opinion at best.

AFAIK these games have got a good reception and have garnered reall good reviews, Crysis and Simpsons I have and have no problem with them.

I think my main issue with EA is they keep purchasing smaller talented game studios, who's games I like. And the quality of the games being made nearly always drops, or gets forced into EA's "quick rehash" cycle with annual releases et al.

Sure they have money for those "big budget" games, but I can't help but feel those games never really do anything amazingly new and original as they won't risk their cash!

Not rushed, but still buggy. Not EA's fault, they delayed it.
ProStreet - Absolute rubbish
Fills a gap in the market for which it was intended, it was never made to compete with Forza/PGR.
NFS Carbon - Huge let down
Last year.

I disagree with a lot of what you said tbh, especially when most are only produced by EA as opposed to developed.

What do you think of the Orange Box? Did EA make that crap too?

I have finished C&C3 on the 360... if you can look past playing a RTS on a console, there is nothing wrong with that game whatsoever and it was good fun!

Rail Simulator? Did you even play that before you said it was crap...
Not my game at all, but I'm sure someone out there enjoys it. Same goes for Nascar... I love Motorsport but find Nascar quite boring just going around in circles. Same goes for the Sims, there may be a million versions of it, but people are buying it!

EA knows what sells, which is what brings them in the profits and has made them so successful.

You do realise The Sims and The Sims 2 are part of one of the biggest selling series?

My girlfriend loves them, They look like a money spinner to some, But to those who actually play the games, The expansions were a good thing.

Personally I never liked them, But My girlfriend and my cousin were fans of the whole series and every release, and were happy to pay to expand their enjoyment of the game. God forbid EA were to provide that!
