Whilst I don't disagree, Ubisoft got a lot of stick a while back (despite delivering some very strong brands), EA are by far and away the biggest publisher going. They are currently in a massive phase change, turning away from movie tie-ins and focusing on more IP's as well as introducing new ones.
Need for Speed offers exactly what people expect and want from the series. People buying the new one should know what they are getting and some people like what it offers. People seem to be expecting something new and revolutionary, but NFS is NFS.
People seem all too willing to say EA are rubbish because they don't like NFS (not that it's a 'bad' game, it fills a gap in the market but to compare it with proper racing games is ridiculous), but they'll happily praise Skate (developers) and The Orange Box (publishers) to the rafters, of how about Battlefield 2 (publishers) which is still one of the best games of the last 2 years on PC.
Let us not forget the massive leaps Fifa (developers) has taken with the 08 installment, not only a massive improvement, but it actually overtook PES.
We have had a new IP in Skate which did brilliantly well in sales and reviews, we have another upcoming new IP in Army of Two which is looking very tasty, Burnout Paradise which is not only taking a massive risk in offering something the series never has in a massively open city with a level of detail not yet seen in a game of its scale.
Let us also not forget the lesser titles such as Harry Potter: OotP which, whilst advertised and obviously released as a game for children was actually an accomplished title and worth playing for any fan of the books.
EA's range fits all demographics, which is a lot more than can be said for others.
EA published Crysis, another new IP which offers some of the best graphics seen, yes it has its problems, however that's the developers side, not EA who cannot possibly be accused of rushing the developer after the game was delayed numerous times (much to the publics dismay). EA got a lot of stick for delaying the game, then stick for 'rushing' it out. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
EA, much like Microsoft are major multi-national corporations who come in for a lot of stick from people who don't know what they are talking about. There is a lot of unfounded hatred for these companies but both offer products of undoubted quality.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense in places, I'm watching TV and falling asleep as I type.
