As per report on BBC website. Not good news for Nintendo

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22565945

Games giant EA has revealed that it currently has no games in development for Nintendo's Wii U console.

Despite being a launch partner for the gaming device, EA said it had no developers working on future titles.

The news comes as a blow to Nintendo on the day that it is due to unveil a fresh marketing strategy to boost interest in the Wii U.

Nintendo's financial results revealed that sales of the successor to the Wii had fallen short of expected targets.

EA revealed in an interview with tech news site Kotaku that it had halted work on Wii U games. Since the console's launch it has created versions of Mass Effect 3, Fifa 13 and Need for Speed Most Wanted.

Despite this early commitment, EA will not be producing Wii U versions of its big gaming franchises, which include Battlefield 4, Madden and Fifa.

This stands in contrast to the releases EA prepared for the Wii console, many of which were produced long after launch. However, EA said it would not rule out working on a Wii U game in the future.

Nintendo's latest financial results reveal it has not sold as many Wii U consoles as it expected. Since launch, Nintendo expected to sell about 4 million consoles. Instead it sold only about 3.45 million.

On Friday, Nintendo is expected to unveil the summer line-up of Wii U games and reveal how it plans to get more gamers interested in buying and using the console.

My guess is most of us went out and bought a Wii and barely used it. Those of us with kids can fob them off with wii versions of games and they are perfectly happy without upgrading to the Wii U and it's much cheaper.

I think that area of gaming has currently had it's boom, peaked and withered for now.

Nintendo really should just stop making under telly consoles and just concentrate on making really epic hand helds.

I'd kill for a 3DS with a higher screen res and some more graphics grunt!

In my opinion gaming has advanced/evolved and there is no longer really a place for a low spec, low end graphics system regardless of how gimmicky it is.

Nintendo should start making sex toys.. Wii Mote tech plus 3DS tech.

Imagine what you wish.

Cant really blame EA for this, Nintendo seem to have made a mess of every single aspect of the Wii-U's launch.

It cant come as much of a surprise that company's don't want to make games for a console that they wont make a return on.

I've been saying this for ages. Nintendo should quit the home console market, and focus on making their loved franchises for Playstation & Xbox and shift all their hardware focus onto an epic handheld.

I don't understand why everybody wouldn't want this? Saves people buying a WiiU for 1 decent nintendo game a year, when they could have their one good nintendo game a year along with all the other great third party games, and 1st party microsoft or sony games, on the xbox/playstation.

Somebody please tell me why you wouldn't want this?

Why not make Sony and MS combine as well then we can just have 1 home console?

Nintendo just needs to keep being Nintendo. They offer something different from MS and Sony and I personally like it that way.

True, the Wii was an ideal second console to a 360 or PS3. For me, they haven't quite justified being a second console this time round... let alone being a primary console. And I think that was the problem - they genuinely believed they had a product good enough to be the primary console this time.

Because Sony and MS are not failing in the home console market, and both offer a much wider variety of games than the Wii U.

Owning just a Playstation or just an Xbox is a viable option, owning just a Wii U really isn't.

 disaster!

The original Wii was just something that came along at the right time and price. Pubs had Wii nights/leagues. The motion controls attracted ultra casual gamers and non-gamers. and as silly as it might sound, it just seemed to me that a lot of ex-SNES gamers were getting their own houses and would natuarlly buy a Wii.

I think now, everyone knows that you can buy either a PS3 or an Xbox 360 for £100-and-something and have a huge catalogue of really cheap games. Motion controls are also there if you want them. And for those otherwise non-gamers, they have had that fun already and are done with it.

As for a new gen, most people interested in that side of things will know that the PS4 and New Xbox are round the corner, and looking how long the last gen is lasting, waiting a few months is nothing if that's the right thing to do.

Maybe Nintendo would have been better to release a new console 2-3 years ago when half the people on here were screaming out of next gen. Now that it's almost arrived, people will have mostly made up their mind.
