EA231WMi best for graphic design? dead pixels?

I'm not sure I would say best. I'm not a fan of the 16:9 aspect ratio for graphic design work. I would also consider the Dell 2209WA. The colour gamut of the Dell is much broader, but this can be a blessing as well as a curse - it depends whether you work within the sRGB colour space or would prefer the broadest range of colours possible.

The 2209 has the same colour gamut as the NEC, the 2410 is wide gamut though. As for it being 16:9, it's something I think is vastly exaggerated. A 23" 16:9 will still have more working area than a 22" 16:10. The Dell's a great panel and is cheaper but out of the two I think the NEC's the better choice. I used a hardware calibrator on mine, (used Native mode) and the colours are great, it's good enough to use Creative Suite on, borrow a calibrator, use it and don't forget to set the colour profile to european pre-press 2 in bridge under the colour settings.

Sorry this is correct - I was thinking of the U2410 and U2711 which both have a wide colour gamut. I actually just corrected this on my own website today! :p I still think extra vertical resolution is helpful for design work, but whichever way you look at it the NEC has a higher resolution than the Dell so you have more space to play with.
