Ear plugs - who wears them ?

Interesting. and does it not hurt the ears with a helmet pressing them in a bit ? I'm thinking about getting something similar, though preferably wireless, so that i can use Waze to warn me of any speed traps ahead !
The Shure's sit flat in your ear so don't protude. If i was going to use any earbuds in my helmet it would be a set of 215/315's.

Best thing though is a proper helmet intercom, with earplugs. Music/satnav etc through speakers and wind noise cut out with earplugs.

Thanks I think I'll try a pair of Shures. Actually even when I cycle the wind noise is a little too much (definitely getting old!!)

So these sound right up the street for what I'm looking for.

I didn't for the first year or so, but i always do now. Cut's out a decent amount of wind-noise and it means i hear the bike better, which I'm a fan of, because I love the sound of it :)

I just got surgical impressions made and had them sent away for motorcycle friendly soft material/flush fitting plugs. I wanted filtered but my ear canals are too small to fit filters apparently :(

Chap who did the impressions said can make a manual incision/hole to achieve a similar effect so will have to see. I wear them when doing long motorway/autoroute slogs as the wind noise is nasty and will damage hearing for sure.

This might sound a bit weird, but I can't wear ear plugs when riding. They make me incredibly nauseous, and when I stop and take them out it makes me retch because they prevent my inner ear pressure from equalising. Does anybody else get this problem?

OP here, I'm giving the Shure SE215's a try.. Buying them, that way i can have some light background music to take my attention off the hissing.

You can actually damage your ear if you're not careful taking them out, as it does provide a vacuum of suction. They recommend you slightly twist them back and forth and slowly sorta twist them out... Otherwise you get what you're describing.

Having posted in here last night, I've only ever used crap earplugs, e.g £3 for 40 pairs of those yellow bits of foam, or similar from Tesco. Do any of you wear some kinds of special earplugs? Or just use the same as me?

Moldex spark plugs. About £2 for a pack of 20 on the rainforest.

I've been using Howard Leight Matrix Ear Plugs - they have a spongy consistency, so I guess they let some air through and don't create a vacuum. You need to put them in correctly though, else they hurt (pull ear back, so they slide into the canal.)

I didn't realise these were a 'known brand' so to speak. I searched and this is what I bought!

I recently posted in the tinnitus thread as mine has got worse in the last 6 months I think. I got the new bike around 5 months ago... I've now started wearing the earplugs.

Is it only wind noise that is the concern? Not particularly loud bikes?

I've been using foam earplugs since they became available, nearly forty years of wind noise & "enhanced exhausts" don't seem to have caused me any problems :)

managed to get a custom moulded set because of working in big data halls, just so happens they work great on the bike! always ride with them now.
