I really want to run Final Cut Pro but that will require me upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks. Does anyone know if the OS will make the laptop run slower? I have an Early 2011 Macbook Pro.

I can't say with any any real authority but I doubt the upgrade will introduce any noticeable slowness. I've got a 2012 Air which runs Yosemite quite happily. Can you actually upgrade to just Mavericks?

I currently have Mavericks but Final Cut Pro requires Yosemite (minimum I believe).

If it doesn't already have an SSD, get one in.

My 2011 iMacs are running El Capitan very successfully.

I recently installed an SSD and upgraded it to 8GB ram. Good to know you guys still run it fine with the more recent OS's.

Do the SSD really speed a machine up.. I've a iMac 2010 version 2.8 ghz with 8gb ram. Thinking of getting a SSD into it than buying a new Machine

I recently replaced my hardrive on my early 2011 MBP to an SSD and it was like night and day. Photoshop used to take around 60 seconds to load and now it's opens within seconds.
