My 2GHz core duo is running quite slowly now, and while I think part of the cause is that it has been running without a re-install since I got it a few years ago (2006 maybe), the hard-drive does seem to be making a lot more noise recently and sometimes apps load very slowly.

I'm, thinking of upgrading to SSD for the OS and apps. Has anyone here done the same for an early iMac? Did it fit ok? Are the connectors compatible? Is it easy to do?

Once the new drive is in, will Tiger install just fine despite the new drive?

Any recommended drives? 60GB-80GB is fine, perhaps even smaller. I'll put vids/pics etc on an external drive.

Holy Moly!

Well, I'll think about it. Hopefully a fresh install of Snow Leopard will improve things enough so that I can avoid the HD upgrade, at-least until I buy a new iMac later this year.

It's almost 5 years old, so it's had a good run. Good value for money.

Cheers for the link :)

I replaced friends HDD on this exact model.

If you have any experience building PC computer then this is no different or difficult as changing CPU. You just need the right tools and follow the instructions step by step.

Good to know thanks. I upgraded to a fresh install of snow leopard and now it's like new. Only problem is the paltry 2GB of ram which I think is the limit for this machine.

This is the problem with All in One computers - a tower you could just upgrade in no time at all with very little expetise.

Not sure I would go for another All in One when my present one reaches the end of it's shelf life.
