Hello all

My colleague at work asked me about earphones - not for mp3 players, not massive DJ cans but proper earphones that she can listen to music to at home.

Impressive sound quality... shes into her classical stuff so anything that is good for that really if anyone can suggest makes/models.

Thanks in advance :)

And you didn't even ask your brother you nobster.

What Mr Lin has said is bound to be a decent set although ive not used them.

Deano uses Sennheiser HD25 and HD25SP's (Has both) and they are awesome headphones.

Well I knew you would be at work and I wouldn't be able to contact you :p

Those are lovely but £200! I doubt she'll want to be spending over a ton.

Thanks though Ray :)

Sennheiser HD600 :)
..and if she's on a budget ;)

The Grado S80 aren't too shabby for their price, however, anything more (£80+) and I'd be inclined to suggest Sennheiser.

Best way to get some you like is to test them out for yourself, as some good headphones are not always suited to the style you're listening to.

Sennheiser HD201 which you can pick up for less than a tenner....dont be fooled by the low price though as they are great headphones :)

Sony mdr7506's, fairly pricey, but worth it. Been using them ever since i discovered them back in 2000. Extremely detailed high end, crisp, full of clarity, and the comfiest headphones i've ever used (takes afew weeks for them to bed in). I've tried many, spent a lot, returned a lot, i still come back to these.

Those are disgusting headphones, they gave them away to each student at the music technology college i went to, for free.

i can't see a reason for spending more than 20 or so quid on earphones, just get a nice surround sound set up ;) if it's for home

Got the Sennheiser 457s myself, pretty decent and comfy to wear. Sure they can be picked up for about 20 aswell ;)

Sennheiser doesn't always equal greatness.

I would go with the renowned AKG K240s for sound quality and clarity. They should be about £70. They are generally used as studio monitors because of their tonal accuracy, especially through the vocal range.

Sennheiser HD555 @ £50
AKG 240 @ £70
AKG 601 can be had for around £115 and the HD595 for around £80-90 although she'll probably want to be running them from an amp rather than an MP3 player or similar.

Tell her to go to a shop such as Richer Sounds to try some out, there aren't that many in Brighton though.

Headphones > surround sound in my opinion. And if you think there's no point in spending more than £20 then you've obviously never heard decent headphones. ;)

For £80 you could pick up Beyerdynamic DT770/80's which are very fun headphones. Although they are OK unamped, they really shine when a good amp is used. They're only good for certain genres of music too I heard.

I'm getting Audio Technica AD700's soon. £60 shipped, I'll let you know if they're any good on monday. I've heard good things about them.

Sennheiser HD595, Equation Audio RP-21, Denon D1000 etc are also in that price range.
