http://www.google.co.uk

just wonder how many people will actually do this?

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation

cool! But how many people will actually do it? And does that mean turning off all electronics?!

Anyone who will actually do it post here!

Didn't this happen recently? They had a day where people were asked to turn off some of their electronics to see how much energy was saved, turned out on that day more energy was used than predicted.

I always unplug everything i'm not using and even tho i often use up to 26kW a day. Damn electric heaters. :( In summer tho that should go down to 8kW. :D

While i love the symbolism of the event i really dont see why so much energy is focused on the invididuals responsibilities of global warming and power consumption, where industry gets away with consuming almost endlessly!

If buisness' were to shut down for an hour worldwide, it would make a much better example... And probably save a fair bit of leccy, but global warming is always shoved down the little guys throat as there problem. Personally i get fed up of recycle this... conserve that... energy saver this... insulate that. Its industry that eats most resources up, but its too costly to get them to do anything.

So until industry catches up i'm gonna through my plastic milk bottles in the bin along with the glass jars... gonna leave my PC with speedstep turned off... gonna turn all the lights on if its dark and still sleep well :)

www.blackle.com was made to save energy by being permanently black.

But, even as Google admit on their bit about Earth Hour, it's utterly pointless for anyone who doesn't have an LCD. LCD actually uses more power displaying black than white, as it takes energy to block the light from behind that's always on!

And if you're using a CRT, you'd save far more energy buying an LCD than you would using a black version of Google.
