****EARTHQUAKE!****

On BBC website...

People from across central and southern England have reported an earth tremor.

The BBC has received calls from people in Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Berkshire and the West Midlands reporting an "earthquake".

The tremor could be felt in central Birmingham at about 0100 GMT but it is unclear if it has caused any damage.

The West Midlands was hit by an earthquake in 2002 in the Dudley area that reached 5.0 on the Richter scale and caused damage to homes.

Is that where it was monitored or the epicenter?

Blimey, that was more scary than I imagined a mere earth tremor would have been.

As others have noted, there was a really lucid "there's someone in my house!" feeling as it occurred.

Discovering it's only a tremor isn't that reassuring when you live in a block of potentially-pendulous high-rise flats...

Thought someone had driven into the house. Few people milling around in the street afterwards, was quite a shock to the system.

Didn't set any car alarms off though.

Rocked things here as well. Parents slept through it but the poor birds ripped all it's wing feathers out flapping round it's cage. :(
