****EARTHQUAKE!****

For God's sake, go to a country where there are active, volatile and more worrying disturbances.

The fact this made the news bothers me and I can't even pinpoint why :-/

Something that happens every 10-20 years in this country, is probably worth the news coverage?

It happened just as I was going into a deep sleep. The result was me waking up thinking someone was pulling me out of bed, getting really annoyed so i started shaking myself to stop the shake.....very strange because I had no idea what it was and no idea what my body was doing. I only knew it was an earthquake because my mum called to my brother.

Oh it deserves news coverage but the fuss and over excited reaction about it is a bit daft. Still it could be a bit of a cha-ching for the insurance companies now "do you want earthquake insurance sir?" ;) It is a relatively odd occurance, and it's the biggest quake we've had for a while, but we still have a the occaisional quake that we just don't feel therefore just don't record or chat about.

We all know what media frenzy is like, it'll be over in a couple of days back onto other breaking news items. Still at least it's a nice break of kids going missing, or people being stabbed/shot.

we never have earthquake here though, so it was quit cool to have one *obliviously only cool as it was small enough not to be dangours, except for that poor kid who got hurt my the falling masonry :(

But we do, we have a lot of tiiiiiny ones, but "big" ones, I'll admit happen very rarely. I remember the last one in Kent.

The last recorded ones that the bbc have are:

PREVIOUS QUAKES IN THE UK
April 2007 - Folkestone, Kent (magnitude 4.3)
December 2006 - Dumfries and Galloway (3.5)
September 2002 - Dudley, West Midlands (5.0)
October 2001 - Melton Mowbray (4.1)
September 2000 - Warwick (4.2)
April 1990 - Bishop's Castle, Shropshire (5.1)
July 1984 - Nefyn, north Wales (5.4)
June 1931 - in North Sea near Great Yarmouth (6.1)

Wow just look how frequent "significant" quakes have occurred since 2000! heard on the radio today that global warming is being blamed for more and more quakes, I couldnt work out what difference a few degrees would actually make to the plates over the planet and cause more quakes???

I was in a 20-storey hotel in Leeds at the time. My colleague on the 10th floor said it was very very pronounced, as did everyone else in the hotel. I slept through it all :)

3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"

4Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.

9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

****!

I've just seen the photo of the lads' room, who broke his pelvis because of the masonry that collapsed.

He was a friends of my friends friend. Will post the pic once I get permission.

Thats harsh. Wish him a speedy recovery from a fellow sheffielder. I had the attic room last year, that could have been me :(
