Easiest way to change windows icons?

As above really. I don't want to have to manually change each icon but also don't want to install a program to do it for me. Is there any alternative?

Er bit tricky that. I think you can install a prog that allows you to install a pack of icons. The prog doesn't install anything for you, just gives you the ability to install icon packs you like.

Can I ask why you don't want to manually change icons/let a program do this for you?

Personally I use the Tango icon pack. Free and makes Windows look so much better I think. Looks a treat when paired with the XPM Classic theme pack.

I just cba to do it manually because when I did change the icons it just didn't seem to work properly for some icons in certain places like the start bar and folder toolbar.

Installing a program seems like the ideal thing to do now I think about it. Is there any program that willlet me use existing icon packs I have?

yea if you go to deviantart and look on there, there should be some, or if you see a png file you like then go to http://converticon.com/ insert it and itll make a .ico file for you to use

sorry vlc and mozilla i think you will have to do yourself (righ click>properties etc...) but icon tweaker will do the normal computer stuff (hd, my comp etc...)

I can change shortcuts by right clicking and manually changing them but I want to change the default icon for mozilla and vlc so the icon I want shows up in the taskbar.

a lot of icons are hard-coded into the exe's as far as i'm aware so you'll have a hard time changing the taskbar icon unless the particular app allows you to change it.

reshacker (used by both xpize and tango) can be used to manually replace icons in most programs

I think perhaps he means why do you want to do this manually instead of installing a program to do it all for you automatically.

xpize is perfect for this tbh

isn't tacky, just updates the icons + bitmaps that ms didn't

I just don't like the looks of xpize and tango. ATM I've used reshack to change the volume icon and a few other things my main problem is I can't find any comprehensive icon packages the change most of the icons.

I'd also like to know if anyone knows how I can change the windows icon in every window and the go button in every window with reshack.

Also I installed xpize briefly then uninstalled it but it hasn't changed everything back to default e.g. when copying files the progress bar has all the xpize icons ect and there are a few other things. Will reinstalling then uninstalling fore me to loose all my custom icons?

Checked out the XPize guide? Surely there is some kind of restore function in there?
