I've been struggling to network my PC, running Windows 7 Beta, and my netbook, running Windows XP Home!!!

I have a Linksys WAG160N wireless router and both machines connect to that flawlessly - but refuse outright to see each other!!

Anyway, I've given up trying to get it to work so I hit upon the idea of a simple crossover ethernet cable!?!?
Am I right in thinking that I will just be able to plug one end into each machine and hey presto - mini network!?!?

Thanks peeps.....

Thanks for the replies guys - I'd about given up on networking these machines but I've never tried what you have both suggested!!

I'll give it a go tonight - is there anything else (even basic stuff) I need to do first?? (I'm thinking firewalls, router ports etc)

Thanks...

You will also need to authenticate against the machine you are connecting to with a valid username and password if the systems do not share identicle credentials.

Sorry but I have no idea what that means!?!?

Is there any way I can do this without needing passowrds etc??

Thanks...

Its basically for transferring files from my PC to netbook - nothing too spectacular!!!!

I've tried time and again to set up workgorups etc but since one o/s is Windows 7 and the other Win XP, I'm having all sorts of problems as "homegroups" or whatever the hell they are, are exclusive to Windows 7 (or so I've read)

My PC just boots up into the default user account (dont know if that matters)

All I want to do is drag & drop or copy & paste files - if someone can walk me through it step by step I'd appreciate it!!

Cheers,

I cant get the 2 machines to see each other over the wireless network at all!!!! - Both machines are fully up to date with updates etc and still nothing!!!!

I'm 99% sure its a Windows 7 problem as I recently had a lan weekend with a few mates and via a wired connection I could see the other machines but I couldnt share any of my files other than the default shared ones!!!!
