Easiest way to restore using Acronis True Image 11?

As far as i am aware, there are two ways to restore a partition. The first way is to restore it via the software itself. For example, if i create an image on the 1st of every month, but on the 15th something messes up really bad, then i can use the software tools to recover the partition. Is that right?

The second way as i understand it is to make a bootable CD/DVD. This is the way that i would like to do it, but i am not sure as to how to do this. Do i just create the image of my C: (windows Xp) with all of my programs installed, then burn this image to a DVD and just insert this DVD as prior to the loading of XP, just as i have been doing with my XP CD over the years?

if the second method can be done, does it mean that everything will be loaded exactly as it was when i created the image (i.e. IE7, all updates etc)?

Sorry about my lack of knowledge. It just seems that this is much easier that having to format everything once something goes wrong.

The way I do it is to create a full back up of my drive in your example the C Drive.

The a run a scheduled incrmental back up (which only takes the differences between the original backup and the point in time the incremental is taken). I have the incremental to run every other night.

If then I need to restore it is possible either in windows via True Image to request a back up from either the full back up or from any of the incrmentals. If you choose the incrementals, true image applies the full back up to begin with, then adds the incrementals until the point you've chosen.

If your Windows is broken you will need to have created a True Image restore disk. This just contains the True Image 11 restore software and not the back ups themselves.

You will need to boot form the restore disk (CD or DVD) so you'll need to set your BIOS to do this. Then the restore software will load and will again let you choose what back up to restore from as above.

Hope that helps, if you want more info, just reply and I'll try to help. Have used True Image for a number of years now and it's saved my skin on a number of occasions.

Thanks taff, thats cleared a lot up! :)

In regards to making the restore disk for the true image software, how large is this? Could i put this on, as well as the image all on one DVD if i left a few hundred mb for the software? :)

Edit: Dont think thats possible because the restore software has created a 50mb ISO file to burn to a CD. Not really a problem, just thought it would be handy to have the software and the image for the restore on on DVD. ;(

You could try something like ISO Buster to break the ISO apart then copy the individual files to the DVD.

Not sure if this will work as I've never tried it.

I thought Acronis allowed you to do something from BIOS startup to revert to a saved image on the hard drive?
