Easiest Way to Share Files Between PC & Laptop on Different LAN's??

Hi,

I am wanting an easy solution to share files between my PC and my laptop.

They are work machines. So they are both connected to different LAN's. So, i think doing the file sharing via IP is a no go. I have them both plugged in all the time. (I am not able to ping the machines from each other, so i dont have an IP route).

What i currently do, is put the stuff on USB, then copy it over. But its now getting to be a pain in the bum.

The PC machine is basic, the Laptop has Bluetooth and wireless.
I am thinkink that the best solution maybe to buy a bluetooth adaptor for the PC - this would be ok for documents and small files. - But anything over 100mb is going to struggle.

Today, i moved 15GB from machine to machine

Anyone have any bright ideas?

Could just get a router between the two networks and create a share.

EDIT: As they are work machines this will probably prove difficult. You can connect both directly together with an ethernet cable (providing both are not ancient you shouldn't need a crossover), configure the IPs so they are in the same subnet and then create a share and do the transfer. Would mean changing cables and dropping network connection each time though.

Yes, these are not possible. I think IP is out of the question.

One of my machines connects directly to the mobile phone networks internal networks and systems.

The other connects to another operators machines and the internet.

I can not network them together.

Also, i only have one RF45 port on each machine so i cant keep plugging/unplugging them.

Any other ideas?

Dropbox, Google drive, whateverthemicrosoftnameis drive any good?

If the machines are close together (dont know if they are) you could stick a nic in each and join them together.

Machines are close together, but i cant have two nic and two IP's can i?

One of the machines is in a special VLAN and Private network, so no cloud services.

Is just a bluetooth PAN my only option? Thats all i can think of, which will not make me have to keep dropping my connection.

So your company has deliberately separated networks because... :)

Anyhow, yes you can have 2 nics and 2 IPs if you really want, but don't be surprised if someone drops the corporate IT procedures down on you - unless you're responsible for them.

What might be a better option is an external drive you can unplug and move to each machine.
