Easily achieveable overclock from E2180?

I just ordered my new system today for delivery tomorrow. It consists of a E2180 Retail, Asus P5K, GeiL PC6400 800MHz CAS 4-4-4-12 and an 8800GT.

Now, I wasn't planning to overclock and as budget was not even tight anymore it was £100 over I couldn't buy a quad core or even a decent cooler. What kind of speeds could I get easily from my CPU on the retail cooler, and I mean 100% stable over maximum speed really.

You should easily achieve 3GHz+ on the stock cooler, no problems. My father's E2180 idles away at 19 degrees, and 27 under 100% load at stock settings - so they run very very cool.
 
I agree with the previous postings - 3GHz on stock cooler is fine temperature wise and may not even you to change the CPU voltage from Auto, and even then only a small increase in voltage would be needed.

Had my e2140 @ 3.2 but it needed more juice than i wanted to give it so it stays at 3GHZ
 
Hey there, rather than open another 2180 thread, mind if I ask a question here?

I am very likely to get a 2180 and aim to get to 3ghz but I want to do it quietly. I have a Zalman 7500 still in a box...would this cool the 2180 at 3ghz quietly do you think? Or do I need W/C to do it quietly?
 
i have antec p182 case 2180 and artic freezer and abit IP35-e board and its as quiet as a mouse idles @29c full orthos load 53c .

Eugh it seems I have already messed this up.

Went into BIOS and just set the FSB to manual, so changed it to 250 to get 2.5GHz. Of course the Mobo tries to balance it out so it lowered the multi to 6 thus giving me 2GHz again!

Anyway rebooted and I can't seem to get into the bios. I press delete but it chooses to ignore me and boots into Windows anyway, help!
 
I'm not entirely sure what it was, I just wanna get into the bios again. And for future reference how do I disable/adjust speedstep?

Edit: BIOS working now, thinking I was hitting delete too often, because it kept trying to go into Windows Memory test lol

I changed the multiplier to manual and set it as 10, and the FSB to manual and 250. Is this all I need to do? Because CPU-Z still shows the multi as 6 :(

You need to disable speedstep (EIST) within the bios and something called C1E if you have it (I don't in my bios).
 
Just did that, CPU-Z now showing 2.5GHz although Windows is still at 2.0 I am assuming this is because it identifies the processor as the E2180 and associates 2.0 with that?

EDIT: Am I right in thinking Orthos is the best application to use to stress CPU as it uses both cores? If so, can I just perform the 'blend' setting and thats it? Sorry, as I said I am new at this and am just trying to do everything as well as I can :)

Run both Small Ftt's and also run Blend once your cpu is stable and you have run a long stint of Small ftts.

the SF' stresses your CPU, blend stresses some of your cpu and ** ram.
