Hey, so this is my second post this week but I've changed my mind slightly on what I'm after. Basically I want the best gaming pc I can get for £500 or so, but which I can upgrade in maybe a year or so (when hopefully I'll have a bit more spare cash) without having to shell out for the motherboard/ram/case etc. again. So if possible maybe scrimping a little on the cpu and gfx card for now, would that work at all or would the system not be up to much cop like that? Any suggestions would be much appreciated, once again after pretty much everything except a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I've decided to buy my own parts and build it myself as that seemed to be recommened in the other thread. Thanks in advance again!

Right here goes, with 500 its going to be pretty difficult right now to buy the componnents with future upgrading in mind. With your price range of 500 where looking at either really good dual core, or a dated 775 socket quad core. The thing is all the sockets are kinda dated now other then the 1366 socket and your looking at 200 plus just for the MOBO! Along with this you would have to pick another CPU which fits such a socket. Another 200 pounds on an I7! What I would personally do is buy a good 775 socket mobo, get your mittens onto a good quad core with tht socket, such as the q6600 or 8400 etc. Spend more money on the parts which you can use again further along the line. Im thinking here PSU, GPU, RAM, CPU cooler and the CASE.

With this your going to get good performance in all games out right now, with the compromise of buying into an old socket, youve got to bear in mind though that you really are on a budget of 400 as the OS costs nearly 70 pounds. Just my two cents. Another option would be to save up till you have around 700 then shoot for an I5 system. Heres a good link for you

some ideas there for the different price ranges you have in mind, along with the difference in components if you holded out :). Hope this helps somehow. There may be an AMD alternative for you, but at the minuite im pretty clueless with AMD so I dont want to lead you astray :)

There is a guy on here called 95thrifes, look at his sig and you could find something there. Also, with only 500 to spend, go for an AMD setup, you will get more for your money. My advice though, is to wait a little bit longer until you have more money then get a decent i5 rig

The link above that i linked is to 95thrifes thred ^^ :P You can get a fairly good gaming setup with 500, just the future proofing which is the problem.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the help. Funnily enough I read 95thrifles thread literally just after posting, it was very helpful. After reading that and your advice I think I might up the budget a little and go for a low end i5 system which will hopefully allow me to upgrade some time next year. I'll put a build together and see what people think of it soon. Thanks again.
