Am split between both.

Drive, cheapish car parks do exist and then get the tube to spend a few hours in London doing the tourist thing before the game. Will need to buy tube ticket of course.

Get the train/tube.

In actuality, both have their own problem of "Getting out of London" but what do people suggest after experience?

Many thanks.

Whenever Ive driven i find it takes hours to get out of the area but i do park in the official car park. Id get the train.

From Nottingham it's a no brainer to get the train. The train service is great. Tube will be busy but there won't be huge crowds at Kings X. It'll be busier than usual sure, but not so busy as to be unusable.

One snarl up on the m1 and you're knacked. And Driving around London on a Saturday is never easy, especially if you're an out of towner and on a tight schedule. Sat nav can be very misleading in London when there's big events on. Traffic ebbs and flows too fast for it make sense out of it.

If you leave earlier enough the drive isn't that bad. Wembley isn't far from the M1.

Train wise - the East Mids train is really good - but quite expensive and will put you further into London than you need to be, to then Tube out of again.

Edit: If you are going for a beer/want to visit London then definitely get the train. Pre-book your journey and it won't be too bad.

No drinking, just me and the kids but want to make a day of it doing some of the "tourist" stuff, National History Museum and the like.

I normally park at Stanmore and then get the tube/overground into London.

Honestly though am stuck with what would be best. If at Stanmore, is easy to get back onto M1 but is around an hour from there to centre of London so swings and roundabouts.

My last few trips to London have been hampered by the roadworks around Northampton in the evenings.

Check the prices of train tickets. It really is a nice straight forward journey from East Mids.

Don't tick fully flexible as it'll be a killer $$ wise. Check out getting a family rail card too:

I already have a Railcard, the only reason why I considered Train in the first place :)

£98 return for the four of us, that includes an all day travelcard for London.

Yes, is more than car but not overly so when factoring in fuel costs and London travelcard and my perceived convenience. Plus, I am getting older now and can have a nap on the way home :)

I used to drive to Stanmore (M1 J4) park up and get tube straight to Wembley

It is straightforward and convenient from there.

My only reservation was no reserved parking but if getting there early enough should not be a problem.

The money saved would go towards some nice dinner somewhere but swings and roundabouts it seems. My old fart self thinks "Mmm Train... Mmm sleep" but something tells me the train will be standing room only anyway.

If you pre-book fixed times you can reserve seats together

The £98 is for an "open" ticket, price actually INCREASES if you want a timed ticket. They know what they are doing, gits - lol

Ignore me, forgot to change ticket type...

Ok, yep, price doubles if you want timed tickets.

Cheaper fare is "open" ticket so cannot reserve a seat.

Yeah you're right, bar stools aren't they. Not sure how busy it is from Notts but always unlikely to get a 4 seater together regardless of time!

Got train tickets in the end :)

Car was tempting but for some reason, my last few trips down there have taken 3 hours plus for one reason or another and journeys back at nights with roadworks, closures etc etc have all taken the mick.
