kids have been messing with 'deep thought' and now the icons are highlighted, and i can't remember how to un-highlight them.

i'll check what you said. i did do it ages ago when playing about and imediately un-did it, and know one of the spogs has done it i can't remember were it was sorted.

well it's still there!
although it's kinda gone now cos i've hidden not 'show desktop icons'

don't think it's because its PNG cos it's done it on all my previous desktops which most were JPEG.

as for the desktop itself i can't claim reward for it i came across it via The All New Desktop Thread, Images No Larger Than 800x600 thread(p147), kudos goes to 'trifid' for bringing it into our lives

You could try applying the default theme again, let it redo the visual settings or in system properties > advanced > performance, set it to performance > apply, then set back to appearance > apply again.

changing the theme didn't work, i was begining to think i'd just have to live with no icons on the desktop, not that its a bad thing....
but we have the winner !!
performance back to appearance has sorted it - Many Thanks
