how hard is stuff like this to do? I've always wanted to learn PS and keep thinking about getting it. My bday next week so might treat myself to it.

I love the PS! You could start with Photoshop Elements, it's more user friendly. You will find Photoshop CS5 very complicated.

I started with Elements v2 years ago and eventually I had to switch to CS. It has more features but for beginners, Elements is good enough, so try that first.

Stuff like that is probably the easiest thing you'll ever learn. Nice simple white background to remove.

Obviously things get a bit harder, But photoshop definitely makes it easier than the other photo editing software.

Photoshop is THE best. Especially the latest versions. Don't buy outdated versions. CS5 series support CUDA in graphics cards so it makes these programs work faster :)

Photoshop USED to be harder than it is now.
With content aware fill etc it just requires 1 click procedures a lot of the time.

I took the white off that pic too but got beaten by zYx :@

Obviously the modified picture I posted isn't perfect if you look into it more deeply, but I think it's good enough.

You can spend hours on one single icon. I create themes for iPhones and I have to create custom icons for all apps that are available. It takes ages to get a perfect results, but it's worth it!

Yeh as said, start with Elements and if you like it go for the full version. If you can get it on student discount then it can save you a few quid too.

Is Elements any good/ok for learning on? I cant spend £600 on CS5 the GF would go nuts.

This is why they've created "Elements' series, so you don't have to spend £600 on a product that you won't know how to use.

Like i said, Elements is more user friendly, CS is for professionals. You might have difficulties in finding what you want.

PS is really simple it just looks complicated because it has so many different tools, hundreds of guides on how to do almost anything in photoshop already exist and its very simple to follow them aslong as they were wrote using the same version of photoshop your using.

some have the tools in different places or different short cuts assigned to them

Literally just "Google" what you want to do and what version of PhotoShop you're using and you will find hundreds of guides/videos on how to do it, even the simplest things.

There is lots of tuts on YouTube. I will still recommend Elements, but if you are a fast-learner the go for CS one :D

Thanks guys how did you do it i was trying to use the magic wand but it kept selecting a bit of his hand to cut off.
